I don’t think any generation of humans has been as obsessed with this question as ours:
“What is my purpose?”
Long-term, this is not the most useful question to ask.
Purpose is not a fixed destination; it is more like a river in motion. There are many dimensions to who you are that your current reality cannot fully account for. When you define yourself too absolutely around a single path, you risk becoming fragile.
What happens when the world shifts?
What happens when industries change?
What happens when life disrupts your plans?
And it always will.
This is especially critical for young people like myself, still evolving, still discovering and still becoming.
A better question to ask is:
“What proof of value am I building today that will compound over the next five years?”
Skills compound.
Character compounds.
Reputation compounds.
Thinking compounds.
Purpose often reveals itself after capacity has been built.
