Tragic Accident at Choba Bridge 💔

WAEC needs urgent reform. This must stop.

Two days ago, a heartbreaking accident occurred at Choba Bridge, claiming the lives of students who had stayed out late to complete their WAEC examination.

The question that must be asked is: Why should an examination scheduled to begin at 2:00 PM have its question papers arrive as late as 6:00 PM, forcing students to write through the night and exposing them to unnecessary danger?

The safety, welfare, and lives of students should always come first. No examination is worth risking the lives of young people. Delays in the distribution of examination materials, poor logistics, and inadequate contingency planning continue to place candidates under avoidable pressure and danger.

This tragic incident highlights the urgent need for comprehensive reforms within WAEC. Examination processes must be modernized, logistics strengthened, and strict accountability measures put in place to prevent future occurrences. Students deserve a system that prioritizes their safety, dignity, and right to learn in a secure environment.

The lives lost at Choba Bridge should not be in vain. WAEC, education authorities, and relevant stakeholders must take immediate action to ensure that no student is ever exposed to such risks again.

FLOOD DISASTER HITS UNIPORT STUDENTS IN CHOBA

Burna Boy, Shakira Light Up 2026 World Cup Opening Ceremony in Mexico

Nigerian Afrobeats superstar Burna Boy and Colombian pop icon Shakira delivered a spectacular performance at the opening ceremony of the 2026 FIFA World Cup in Mexico City, officially launching the tournament with the anthem “Dai Dai.”

The ceremony took place at Estadio Azteca on June 11, ahead of the tournament's opening match. The duo performed “Dai Dai” live for the first time before a packed crowd, blending Burna Boy’s Afrobeats sound with Shakira’s Latin-pop energy in a colorful showcase of music, dance, and culture.

The performance was one of the highlights of an elaborate opening ceremony that also featured artists including J Balvin, Belinda, Alejandro Fernández, and members of Mexico’s music scene.

“Dai Dai” serves as the official song of the 2026 FIFA World Cup and was created to celebrate the tournament's global spirit while supporting the FIFA Global Citizen Education Fund. FIFA had announced before the event that Burna Boy and Shakira would headline the musical celebrations in Mexico City.
