IF YOU'RE A MUSIC LEADER OR DIRECTOR THIS IS FOR YOU
For Music Leaders and directors, It is your responsibility to train your singers by applying measures that will help boost their confidence.
If your choir or singers have challenges at projecting their voice, coming at a song with the right energy, modulating effectively, the challenge often times is that their confidence is low.
Check if you're breaking their confidence. For example, when a singer in your team hits a wrong note, how you handle that can bring down the confidence of the person or boost it.
Be careful that your style of leadership is not breaking down or bringing down the confidence of your team because without their confidence being in place they will never be able to sound "as one" with the right charisma and energy.
WAYS TO HELP BOOST A SINGER'S CONFIDENCE:
1. Never say i cant hit that note but you can say I haven't been able to hit it yet. I'll try again.
2. Always watch clips of singers watching how they perform on stage. Pay attention to their confidence and how they manage changes on stage.
3. Practice your confidence before a mirror and rehearse what you'd say concerning different situations on stage while singing.
4. Never tell a singer in your team, you cannot hit that note or you cannot sing this part.
5. Organise healthy singing competitions within your team by giving your singers songs to score and deliver.
6. Give your choir a minimum of 30mins in vocal exercises during rehearsals.
7. Be nice and warm to your singers yet drive them to be better by showing them what they can do, and not what they cannot do.
Dear Singer, Value your CONFIDENCE over the note... however keep learning, rehearsing and singing.
