CONDEMNING THE MILITARY ATTACK ON REPENTANT MILITIA IN GROUPS IN BENUE STATE.

A recent military operation in Ukum Local Government Area of Benue State has raised serious concerns about the government's commitment to peace and reconciliation. On December 7, 2024, troops from the Nigerian Army's 6 Brigade and Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke attacked a group of youths linked to a repentant militia leader known as "Full Fire". The military claimed to have recovered incriminating items from the group, but this incident has sparked fears that the government may be undermining its own amnesty program.

The Benue State Government had established an Amnesty Committee, chaired by Bishop Isaac Dugu, to engage with bandits and encourage them to surrender. The committee's efforts had led to the repentance of several militia groups, including "Full Fire" and his followers. However, the military's attack on these repentant youths has put the entire amnesty program at risk.

This incident is eerily reminiscent of a similar attack in 2020, in which the Nigerian Army killed a group of repentant youths from Sankera, including their leader, Terwase Akwaza, alias "Gana". That incident ruined the amnesty process and plunged the region into deeper security turmoil.

We urge Governor Alia to intervene promptly and investigate this incident. It is essential to resolve this matter quickly to prevent the amnesty program from being derailed. The government must demonstrate its commitment to peace and reconciliation by ensuring that those who have surrendered are protected and reintegrated into society.

The people of Benue State deserve peace and stability, and it is the government's responsibility to ensure that they receive it. We call on the government to take immediate action to address this situation and prevent further violence.

Dear FERMA, As a concerned citizen of Benue state, I am writing to express my disappointment and concern regarding the current state of Yandev-Ugbema road, particularly the circulating letter from the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA) claiming that they have completed the road.
It is disheartening to see that Yandev-Ugbema road, which serves as a major link between Makurdi, Gboko and Nigeria at large, is in such a deplorable condition. This road is not only important for the people living in the surrounding communities, but it is also crucial for the transportation of goods and services within and inter-states.

The recent letter circulating on social media, supposedly from FERMA, claiming that the road has been completed, is nothing but a false claim. The reality on the ground is far from what is being portrayed in the letter. The road is still filled with potholes, making it difficult and risky for commuters to use. Moreover, there are huge sections of the road that are completely impassable, causing severe traffic congestion and delays.
This situation not only reflects poorly on the credibility of FERMA, but it also hinders the economic development of our state.
Businesses and farmers who rely on this road for transportation are facing severe losses and disruptions due to the poor condition of the road.

It is important to note that FERMA is an agency responsible for the maintenance of federal roads in Nigeria. They are entrusted with the responsibility of ensuring that our roads are in good condition for the safety and convenience of the public.

The circulating letter from FERMA, claiming that they have completed these abandoned projects, raises serious questions about the agency's integrity and credibility. How can they claim to have completed projects that have been left unfinished for months? This is a clear case of misinformation and an attempt to deceive the public.

Furthermore, this letter has caused a lot of confusion among the public. Many people are now questioning the authenticity of the projects claimed to have been completed by FERMA. Is this letter just a ploy to cover up their failure to complete these projects? Are they trying to hide their incompetence and mismanagement of funds?

I urge FERMA to take immediate action to clear the space and address the issue of the misleading letter. It is unacceptable to give false hope to the people of Benue state, who are already facing numerous challenges. We demand transparency and accountability from FERMA in their road maintenance responsibilities.

I hope that this letter serves as a wake-up call for FERMA and the federal government to take urgent action in addressing the deplorable condition of Yandev-Ugbema road. The people of Benue state deserve better and we will not stop demanding for it until our voices are heard and action is taken.

Repentant bandits in Ukum Local Government Area of Benue State have resolved to lay down their arms and embrace peace.

This breakthrough came after a peace meeting at the NUT secretariat in Sankera, where the group unanimously agreed to abandon their violent ways.

The Benue State Governor's non-violent approach, supported by religious and traditional institutions, has proven effective in addressing security challenges in the area. Mwaikyoga Joka Biam, leader of the group, expressed happiness about reuniting with loved ones and pledged not to return to their old ways.

Other bandits, including Tersugh Anuku and Fater Uwua Gwar, also renounced their past actions, citing circumstances that led them astray. Traditional leaders, such as Tyoor Borikyo Chief Myaga UnĂ´ngo and Chief AtĂ´ndo Gongor, praised the meeting's outcome and promised to reconvene for further progress.

The meeting was attended by traditional, opinion, and religious leaders, heads of security agencies, and youth. This development is a significant step towards peace in the region, demonstrating the power of collaborative efforts between government, community leaders, and security agencies.
