Scholar Advocates For More Funding In Education In Nigeria

A renowned professor of Economic and Political History at the Rivers State University (RSU), Prof. Frank Amugo has advocated for all tier of government to take measurable responsibility in the funding of education in the country.

Professor Amugo, pointed out that adequate priority must be pay on budget implementation by government to improve on quality of education in the country,adding that funding especially on infrastructure, teachers welfare, will go along way to boast the needed standards in the system.

The erudite professor who is of the Department of History and International Diplomacy, Faculty of Humanity, Spoke to Journalists ,shortly after an event in Port Harcourt.

He explained that the deplorable situations of education in the country is a far cry from what it should be but therefore suggested for urgent attention and all hands to be on desk to salvage the system from imminent collapsed.

"We are advocating for good funding for Education in this country by the government and those well-placed individuals to help to boast the quality and improve on the standard so far achieved" he said.

Speaking further, the Frontline scholar said there should be some percentage of our states and nation's budget on education to encourage the system function optimally,Opining that,with proper funding,the country will be on the right path to it's advancement.

" There should be some percentage of our budget to education, especially on the area of infrastructure,teachers welfare etc."

NIPR President Charge Members To See Beyond Traditional Media Functions

Against the backdrop of collapsed relationship at family, community ,state,national and even at global level, Public Relations practitioners across Nigeria have been charged to go beyond traditional media relations and protocol services to strategic leadership functions crucial to shaping and transforming the nation.

Giving charged in his message at this year's (2025) World Public Relations Day, with the Theme: " Building Bridges,Navigating Polarisation" In Port Harcourt. The National President of the Nigeria Institution of Public Relations Dr. Ike Neliaku said he was happy to address members and guests on this special day, pointing out that the day offers a an opportunity to reflect on the journey over six decades since Public Relations formally birthed in Nigeria.

He explained that this year's world Public Relations day gives opportunity to members to reflect on the actions and inactions towards the development of the profession and to boldly develop new frontiers for a greater institution that will shape and transform our society.

Dr. Neliaku, maintained that the values of Public Relations particularly in areas of fostering relationship, strengthening leadership and advancing good governance remain a key -through effective and goal- oriented communication.

Also in his speech, the State Chairman Rev. Francis Asuk, however described world Public Relations day as a day set aside to pay attention to the works of public relations globally about the essence as the world is crying about rebuilding relationship due to the collapsed of the value systems at family, society and world level of human existence.

NLA Restates Commitment For Advancement Of Education, Literacy In Nigeria

The President and Chairman of Council, Nigerian Library Association (NLA) Dr. Dominic Amenaghawon Omokaro has expressed deep commitment to the advancement of education and literacy in Nigeria - through the library system.

Speaking through his state Chairman Dr. Chidara Okachukwu Nyemezu ,at the former Launching of Vanguard for Library Visibility And Advocacy (VALVA) in Port Harcourt.

Dr. Omokaro, discribed the former inauguration of body as historic and passionate movement aimed at shining the spotlight on one of the underappreciated; yet critical institution in our educational and national development.

" We are gathered here not just to launch a group,but to launch a vision and ignite a movement to reinforce a mission to make libraries visible and valuable again for our people." he said.

Dr. Omokaro maintained that the birth of VALVA is based on the recognition that libraries particularly school libraries are the bedrock of promoting reading and research culture that includes, innovation and lifelong learning in our society even though, the system is grossly underfunded and poorly equipped in many cases.

The President and Chairman in Council, recalled that the theme of its first week under his watch was " Library System for National Development in 2022" as he hinted that the message was driven by the state chapters.

He explained that the inauguration of VALVA, shows an important mission to promote the visibility and development with impact on schools and other libraries through strategic advocacy that will advanced quality education and foster lifelong learning culture in our country.

Muhammad Obiri Warns Renaissance Africa Energy Against Divide and Rule Tactic

A Frontline agitator and President of Niger Delta Upland Communities(NDUC) Hon. Isah Muhammad Obiri has called on the Management of Renaissance Africa Energy limited not to be misled by some local cabres masquerading as leaders to take uninformed decisions against the collective wellbeing of the people of Rumiekpe.

Hon.Obiri while fielding questions from journalists in Port Harcourt, said as a representative of Zone 5 ,he ought to have been informed about the resumption of the new company, but said rather than the new management to deal directly with stakeholders across board,they instead, adopts divide and rule tactic as it is observed against the community.

The NDUC president recalled that it was in the light of unwholesome behaviours like inhuman treatment melted to communities in Rumekpe that led to the shutdown of Shell manifolds and consequent exist ,adding that as a leader, he would not sit and fold it's hand to see the ugly trend continued.

Mr.Obiri explained that despite repeated approach for dialogue,the new management have chosen to continued with some local cabres,but however warned for the company and it's management not to push the present Federal Government led by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to a different angle because according to him " the government had suffered severely in the hands of the local cabres in the area even without any tangible recommendations about the customs and traditions of the people of Rumekpe"

"I am begging Renaissance Africa Energy limited not to push President Tinubu administration into another lost because the government have suffered so much in the hands of this cabres" he said.

The Niger Delta agitator advised the new company not to toe the path of Shell but to make a U-turn by ensuring a proper meeting with all stakeholders including the oldest man in the community for the sake of peace and development.
