ELDERLY STRANDED, BODIES ABANDONED: NGOSHE COMMUNITY CRIES OUT FOR URGENT HELP AFTER TERROR ATTACK π
Fear and destruction have taken over the Ngoshe community in Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State after suspected Boko Haram fighters carried out a deadly midnight raid, kidnapping many residents and forcing others to flee for safety. π₯
According to reports, the attackers invaded the town around 1 a.m. on Wednesday, first striking a nearby military base before turning their attack on civilians. Residents described the night as terrifying, with heavy gunfire sending families running in different directions to escape. π₯
Many survivors said they fled into nearby bushes under the cover of darkness, leaving their homes and valuables behind as gunshots rang through the village for hours.
The District Secretary of Ngoshe, Shuaibu Dabawa, described the situation as heartbreaking.
βMore than 300 people were taken during the attack. We had to spend the entire night hiding in the bush after we heard the gunshots,β he revealed. πΉ
Dabawa also expressed deep concern for elderly residents who were unable to escape and are believed to still be inside the community, along with bodies left behind after the deadly invasion.
βOur biggest fear is that some elderly people are still trapped there with the dead bodies. Many of us escaped with nothing but the clothes on our bodies,β he said.
Reports indicate that the Air Component of Operation Hadin Kai later responded and pushed the attackers back into nearby forests.
Despite the response, the community has already suffered heavy losses.
The Borno State Police Command confirmed the incident, adding that several residents are still missing, with fears that some victims may have been taken toward the Mandara Mountains, an area believed to be a hideout for insurgents. πΉ
