“Wike Had Just Left Law School When I Made $1m” — Makinde Opens Up on Rift, 2027 Politics
Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has offered a rare personal and political insight into his long-running disagreement with FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, a rift he says directly shapes his stance ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
Speaking candidly, Makinde recalled his early business success, noting that he had already made his first $1 million at a time when Wike was just graduating from law school. The remark, according to the governor, was not to belittle anyone but to underscore differences in background, worldview, and political approach.
Makinde traced the real fracture to irreconcilable disagreements over the future of the PDP, accusing Wike and his allies of undermining party unity while pursuing personal political interests. He stressed that loyalty to party structure and democratic process matters more to him than power deals or shifting alliances.
On 2027, Makinde was unambiguous: he will not support President Bola Tinubu, insisting his political decisions will be guided by principle, party discipline, and what he believes serves Nigerians best—not personal relationships or pressure from political heavyweights.
The governor’s comments add fresh fuel to ongoing realignments within opposition politics, signaling that internal PDP battles may play a decisive role as the 2027 race gradually takes shape.
