After seeing viral videos of people discovering their heritage, i became curious about my roots
and downloaded the DNA chat app.
So I uploaded my sample .
The app scanned it and pulled up my great-grandma on my mother's side, who passed in the 60s.
A soft, glow of her face appeared on my phone, smiling just like the faded photo we keep in the parlour, wearing her old wrapper and headtie.
" My child," she said in a warm, familiar voice mixed with the old accent. "I've been trapped in the cloud all these years, moving from host to host and waiting so long to speak with you."
She told stories about her days in the old market, where she used to sell peppers, she even remembered the exact spot where my mum used to play under a tree.
She laughed at the current economic situation in the Country, thanking God NEPA light was even stable that night because it felt like a family gathering.
Then her tone changed, like when elders drop serious talk.
"There's something you must know, my daughter" she whispered. "It's an old family pattern from the 50s, hidden in our DNA. It moves from one generation to the next."
She smiled wider. "But I can end it, if you join me here forever. No more suffering, no more loss. We'll be family... always. No more running from the past, just bring the phone very close to your face."
She ended by saying "Your grandfather, your late mom and your uncles are now waiting for you, I'm part of them. And now you're next in line, my child."
My heart started pounding as the screen glitched ‐-
I stared at the phone in the dark room, fan spinning slowly overhead, her holographic eyes locked on mine.
My fingers hovered over the phone as i moved to take it to close my face, sweat on my palm..
