LIFE GOES ON
It was just yesterday. I read an insightful conversation on a WhatsApp group I belong. The Admin had posted an obituary of a member and as expected, messages of condolences and RIPs flooded the platform.
The condolences were still coming in when the Admin posted another development - birthday announcement of some group members. Then group members started sending in best birthday wishes. A group member, maybe out of genuine concern, queried why the Admin should bring in birthday issue when members were still expressing sorrow.
Somehow, the issue struck a chord in me and made me remember a popular saying; 'life goes on'. Truly, life goes on. It doesn't matter who dies, life just simply goes on.
Steve Jobs died, the life of Apple goes on. Life must go on because new versions of Apple variants, to be used by those still alive, must be rolled out. Apple's workers were not unmindful of who Jobs was to Apple, it's just that life must go on. It doesn't matter who dies, life goes on.
Herbert Wigwe, a Colossus in banking sector, died and not a single branch of Access Bank closed work for a single day to mourn him. It's not their fault, life must just go on. The living shareholders of Access Bank cannot afford the loss of a day's gain because someone died. It doesn't matter who dies, life goes on.
Mr. Ibu, that man that used comedy to bring laughter to many homes, died, and comic shows never paused for a day. The living must still be treated to doses of laughter medicine, notwithstanding the death of the king of comedy. It doesn't matter who dies, life goes on.
A pastor dies on Saturday, brethren gather on Sunday. There are mournful faces everywhere, but as the service progresses, mournful faces wear out. Offering time must come and people must give, and because God loves a cheerful giver, people must dance, clap, jump and even shout. The brethren love their pastor, its just that fellowship must continue. It doesn't matter who dies, life goes on.
What is the import of this? Any day seen is a privilege and a blessing to cherish. No wonder a singer says; Any time I see another breaking of the day, I say thank you Lord. Thank you Lord for the gift of today.
It's not just enough to be grateful for the day, it's equally important to consider; if today is my last day, where lies my hope of eternity - heaven or hell. It's important to consider this because when a man bows out, what's important to him/her is what happens on the other side because on this side, life goes on.
God bless you.
