ARREST OF SUSPECTS IN CONNECTION WITH THE MURDER OF BARRISTER BRIGHT OWHOR; RECOVERY OF WEAPONS AND VEHICLES.

Following the tragic killing of Barrister Bright Owhor 46 years, 'm' of No. 40c Market Road, Rumuomasi, Port Harcourt, by unidentified gunmen on July 6, 2025, Operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit were deployed to investigate and bring the perpetrators to justice.

Through meticulous intelligence work and technical surveillance over ten days, all individuals involved in the crime were identified and apprehended. They include:

Prince Samuel 'm' 30 years– armed operative

Daniel Godwin 'm' 25 years – driver of the getaway vehicle,

Henry Peter 'm' 24 years – arm supplier, and he was the one that shot the victim

Godfrey Emmanuel 'm' a.k.a. Ibu 30 years – gang leader,

Chukwu Nneji 'm' 34 years,

Justice Dimkpa 'm' 27 years,

Promise Wikere 'm' 22 years – handler of stolen vehicles

During interrogation, the suspects confessed to being members of the Deygbam Secret Cult Group. They admitted to their roles in the murder, the withdrawal of funds from the victim's bank account, and involvement in recent cult-related violence between BS and G12 Deygbam factions in Diobu, Port Harcourt.

Recovered exhibits include:

One MTN SIM card

Four locally made pistols

Seven rounds of 9mm ammunition

Two live cartridges

One Mini Bus

One Toyota Camry

Fire Incident in Choba, Port- Harcourt.

The Rivers State Police Command is aware of and deeply concerned about a circulating social media report depicting a fire incident that occurred at No. 11B Okoro Street, Choba, Port Harcourt.

According to the report, one Cynthia Chukwundah, a 300-level female undergraduate student of the University of Port Harcourt, allegedly set her boyfriend one Saint Sunny Amadi, a 32-year old male from the Elibrada Community in Emohua LGA, ablaze in a room, resulting in severe injuries during the inferno.
and was rushed to the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital (UPTH) for medical treatment.

Upon receiving the report at about 1112 hours, Police detectives from Choba Division promptly visited the scene and the victim at the hospital, who was in critical condition. Unfortunately, the victim later succumbed to injuries and died while on admission.

The Police have located Cynthia, who is currently receiving medical treatment at a hospital due to injuries she also sustained during the incident. She is also heavily pregnant with the deceased's child. Due to her critical condition, she is unable to provide a detailed account of the incident, but will do so when her condition is stable.

The probable cause of the fire incident is yet to be ascertained, and a thorough investigation has been launched to unravel the circumstances surrounding the incident. Further developments will be made public as more information becomes available.

Arrest of a Cultists/Murder suspect and Recovery of Exhibits.

The Rivers State Police Command has made another significant breakthrough in its ongoing efforts to combat cultism and other violent crimes in the State. Following credible intelligence, Operatives of the Command attached to the Octopus Tactical Unit successfully arrested a Cultists/Murder suspect.

On May 3, 2025, Operatives of the command received credible information regarding the whereabouts of a notorious cultist known as Aka "K1," a member of the late 2Baba Iceland cult group. This group was linked to the murder of late SP Bako Angbashim, the then DPO of Ahoada Division.

The Police Operatives swiftly stormed the suspect's camp in Ikata Community, Ahoada East LGA, and arrested one Lovegod Goodluck, a male resident of Ikata Community. During the operation, one locally made single-barrel gun and two live cartridges were recovered from him.
In a follow-up operation on the 13th. June, 2025, at about 1730hrs, Operatives made another breakthrough, arresting one Precious Olumini, a male suspect who had earlier escaped. An English made pump-action gun and a locally made pistol were recovered from him.

During interrogation, suspects confessed to being members of the dreaded Iceland cult group that has been terrorizing Ahoada-East axis of the State.

Suspects and exhibits are in Police custody, investigation is currently in progress with efforts being intensified to apprehend other fleeing members of the syndicate and recover their operational weapons.

RIVERS SECURITY CHIEFS CONTINUE STAKEHOLDERS' ENGAGEMENT ACROSS MORE LGAs, EMPHASIZE ON PROTECTION OF CRITICAL NATIONAL ASSETS

The Rivers State Police Command wishes to inform the public that, following the directive of the Sole Administrator of Rivers State, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (rtd.), the Commissioner of Police, alongside heads of other security agencies — including the Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS Pathfinder), Department of State Services (DSS), Garrison Commander 6 Division of the Nigeria Army, 115 Special Operations Group of the Nigerian Air Force, and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) — continued their stakeholders' engagement across several Local Government Areas (LGAs) of the state. These engagements were aimed at fostering collaboration between security agencies and community actors for the protection of critical national assets.

The engagements commenced on Friday, 25th April 2025, at the Council Secretariats of Emohua and Abua/Odual LGAs, and continued on Saturday, 26th April 2025, with stakeholders from Tai, Ogu/Bolo, Okirika, and Eleme LGAs.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Olugbenga Adepoju, stated during the meetings that the Service Commanders visited the LGAs to discuss prevailing security issues and the welfare of the residents. He emphasized the importance of safeguarding critical infrastructures within the communities and called for synergy between the communities and security agencies to ensure the protection of national assets for the benefit of the nation’s economy. He further noted that the engagements were also an avenue to identify challenges facing the communities beyond security concerns, assuring that their complaints would be forwarded to the government for necessary attention.

In Tai LGA, Chief Nuka O. Gbipah, Administrator of the Council, appealed for the revival of the Soghai farm to create employment opportunities. His Royal Majesty, King Samuel Lebura Nnee, Gbenemene of Tai, asserted that Tai remained one of the most peaceful LGAs in the state. Youth representative Ebenezer Letam highlighted the lack of employment opportunities and inadequate staffing in health centres and schools across Bunu, Seme, and Nonwa Tai communities. Following the meeting, CP Adepoju and the service Commanders inspected the health centre and community secondary school in Botem Tai.

During the engagement in Ogu/Bolo LGA, the Administrator, Eliel Owubokiri, assured the security chiefs of the council’s commitment to maintaining peace. His Royal Highness Acheseinimie Micah Frank, King of Bolo Kingdom, raised concerns about theft and kidnappings on waterways, while the Chairman of Ogu Council of Chiefs, Adokiye Ochemiebia Chukwu, appealed for a befitting police station building to replace the current temporary arrangement. Youth representative Inime Emmanuel advocated for youth empowerment and employment initiatives, while Mrs. Caroline Adikibiebuma, representing the women, decried the menace of scrap metal scavengers in the community. The service chiefs also inspected the Ogu Police Division during their visit.

In Okirika LGA, Administrator Thompson Isodiki reiterated the council’s commitment to supporting security agencies. Professor Sotonye Fyneface Ogan, Chairman of Kireke Council of Chiefs, identified theft as a persistent problem and requested for an increased police presence. Youth representatives Kalada Francis and Tomquimn Satson called for youth skill acquisition programs, the establishment of JAMB CBT centres, and modular refineries, while women's representative Nene Mordecai advocated for women’s empowerment and improvements at Daka Market.

At Eleme LGA, Administrator Dr. Gloria Dibia noted that the ongoing construction of the council secretariat had impacted staff productivity. Community chiefs raised concerns over the criminal activities of herders, including kidnapping and farmland destruction. Chief Sunday Dudu, Chairman of Onne CDC, recommended intensified patrols to curb rising crime rates, while youth representative Obo Olako urged for an arms mop-up operation. Dick Baiye lamented the epileptic power supply and high electricity tariffs faced by residents.

In Emohua LGA, Administrator Barrister Franklin Ajinwo emphasized that ensuring security was a primary mandate of his administration. Paramount Ruler of Rundele Clan, His Royal Highness Eze Damian Ejiohuo, appealed for proactive measures to dismantle criminal hideouts, while calling for adequate funding for local security outfits. Similarly, HRH Eze Jonah Nwobodo of Ibaa and Obelle Communities urged the government to revive abandoned facilities such as primary healthcare centres. Other community stakeholders, including Rev. Dr. Gift Asuru and Youth Chairman Stephen Onuoha, requested improved security, social amenities, and youth development initiatives.

UPDATE ON THE KIDNAP AND MURDER OF HOPE GEORGEWILL – CEO, HMG ATTITUDE LTD

The Rivers State Police Command has made significant progress in an earlier report regarding the unfortunate kidnap and subsequent murder of one Hope Georgewill, the Chief Executive Officer of HMG Attitude Ltd, who was abducted alongside two others on March 26, 2025, along the Cotton Channel, Bakana River, by a gang of notorious sea pirates led by one Preye Ngian-Ngian 'M', a native of Degema Local Government Area, Rivers State.

Despite a ransom payment of Two Million Naira (₦2,000,000) made to the kidnappers, the body of the deceased was later recovered and deposited at the morgue.

Following relentless investigative efforts and intelligence led policing, on April 3, 2025, at about 0730hrs, operatives of the Anti-Cultism Unit (ACU), Emohua, in collaboration with intelligence gathered from two earlier arrested suspects in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, launched a tactical operation on the kidnappers’ hideout located in a creek off the Bonny Waterway.

Upon arrival at the hideout, the operatives came under heavy gunfire from the hoodlums. The team responded with decisive force, and in the ensuing exchange, two of the suspects were fatally wounded, while others fled the scene with varying degrees of injuries.

The two initial suspects who led the team to the location attempted to escape during the melee but were later apprehended with gunshot wounds.

During a continued combing of the creek, the following exhibits were recovered:

One operational speedboat

One 80-horsepower and one 70-horsepower outboard engine, respectively

The deceased’s mobile phone (SIM card removed)

One live cartridge

Food supplies used by the kidnappers

All four wounded suspects were immediately transported to the Police Clinic for emergency treatment. However, upon arrival, the attending medical officer confirmed them dead on arrival. Their remains have since been deposited for autopsy.

The Commissioner of Police, Rivers State, CP Olugbenga A. Adepoju, has commended the men of the command as this development marks a significant breakthrough in the continued effort to rid our waterways and communities of criminal elements. He stated that the Rivers State Police Command remains committed to ensuring the safety and security of all residents and visitors to the state.

National Police Day Celebration, CP Olugbenga Adepoju leads Officers of the Command on Community Service, Harps on Synergy:

The Rivers State Police Command, led by the Commissioner of Police CP Olugbenga A. Adepoju, psc, mnips, in continuation of activities marking the National Police Day with a community service event. The celebration, which began on 2nd April, 2025, across the 36 states and the FCT, aimed to foster trust and confidence between the Police and the public.

CP Adepoju, along with Officers and men of the Command, Police Campaign Against Cultism and Other Vices (POCACOV), Members of the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), and Honorary Members of the Police Officers' Mess, took their Community service to Creek Road Market, Mile 1 Park, and Azikiwe Road amongst others in Port-Harcourt where they engaged in cleaning activities.

Addressing journalists at Creek Road Market, CP Adepoju emphasized the importance of showcasing the Police Force's role in Community service beyond law enforcement, building trust and confidence between the Police and the public. He stated that the Police Force is not just about law enforcement but also about serving the Community.

The CP noted that since the event started, the Command has been engaging with the Community and other key stakeholders through lectures, free medical services for members of the public and as well as members of the Police families and other activities to strengthen ties with the Community.

The Police is building trust and confidence in the people. The National Police Day is the first of its kind in line with the IGP's directives. I want the residents to know that we are for them and we will continue to serve and protect them at all times. The public should know that we are free to dialogue with them. We will continue to observe this every year and they should see us as part of them, continue to synergize and relate with us. Police is your friend he asserted.

The Chairman of PCRC, Mr. Voke Emore, during an interview with journalists, noted that the PCRC is one of the people that marks the Police week. The collaboration between the Police and the Community is getting better and stronger. He commended the Police Command for its efforts in bridging the gap between the Police and the Community. He encouraged the Community to feel free and comfortable in approaching the Police at any time, highlighting the commendable initiative of cleaning Creek Road Market, which is one of the biggest markets in Port Harcourt.

The Deputy Commissioner of Police in-charge of Finance/Administration, DCP Samuel Erale-Etaifo, advised Officers and Men of the Command to prioritize their health, emphasizing its importance in their line of duty.

ARREST OF SUSPECTED KIDNAPPERS AND RECOVERY OF ARMS AND AMMUNITION

The Rivers State Police Command has achieved a laudable feat by successfully arresting five suspected kidnappers and recovering a significant cache of arms and ammunitions.

Following a series of kidnapping incidents within the Rukpokwu, Igwuruta, Omagwa, and Etche areas, operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit, acting on actionable intelligence, conducted a coordinated operation on March 8, 2025, commencing at approximately 09:30 am. The operation lasted for eight hours and resulted in the arrest of the following men:

Mohammadu Bello, 30 years old, from Padiki LGA of Kwara State, residing in Rukpokwu.

Suleman Umar, 26 years old, from Hadeja LGA of Jigawa State, residing in Rukpokwu.

Bello Amadu, 35 years old, from Keffi-Hausa LGA of Jigawa State, residing in Rukpokwu.

Adamu Musa, 30 years old, from Hadeja LGA of Jigawa State, residing in Rukpokwu.

Abubakar Mohammed, 22 years old, from Azare LGA of Bauchi State, residing in Rukpokwu.
During interrogation, the suspects confessed to multiple kidnapping activities, including the tragic killing of the Chief Security Officer (CSO) of the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium in Omagwa where the CSO and his son were murdered in cold blood.

The following exhibits were recovered from the suspects:

Two (2) AK-47 rifles

Six (6) AK-47 magazines

Sixty-six (66) rounds of ammunition

Three (3) locally made pistols

Ten (10) live cartridges

Several mobile phones and SIM cards

The suspects are currently in police custody and are cooperating with investigators. Efforts are ongoing to uncover details of other crimes committed by the syndicate and arrest others at large.

GUN ATTACK AT ELELE: ONE SUSPECT ARRESTED, FIREARM RECOVERED

The Rivers State Police Command wishes to inform the general public of a violent attack at Elele Roundabout on the morning of March 5, 2025, at about 7 am.

Acting on credible intelligence regarding the unlawful assembly of suspected hoodlums at the location, a patrol team from Elele Division, led by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), swiftly mobilized to the scene to restore order.

During an attempt to address the crowd, an unidentified assailant, hiding within the vicinity, opened fire resulting in multiple injuries. As at press time, the number of those injured stood at four (4).

The armed hoodlums fled the scene immediately, but one of them was apprehended, and a single-barrel gun was recovered from him. The injured victims were promptly rushed to various hospitals in Elele for medical attention.

A manhunt is currently underway for the fleeing suspects, some of whom have been identified as members of the local vigilante group known as OSPAC. The arrested suspect, along with the recovered firearm, will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), for further investigation.

The Rivers State Police Command assures the public that all perpetrators involved in this criminal act will be apprehended and brought to justice. Further updates will be communicated in due course.

1:35pm: Supreme court delay judgement of the defection matter concerning Rt. Martin Amaewhule.
After hearing arguments from both sides, the apex court announced that it would announce a date for its ruling at a later time.

“Local government election held in Rivers State is hereby declared invalid. "All Purported LGA Chairmen and Councilors are hereby sacked”- Supreme Court.
The local government election conducted on the 5th of October 2024 by the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission has been declared invalid by the Supreme Court on grounds of it being held in breach of provisions of the Electoral Act.

“There is no government in Rivers State. The situation in Rivers State is a dictatorship by Governor Siminalayi and has nothing to do with democracy” - Supreme Court

Appeal Court Judgement on allocation set aside and allocation seized until a validly constituted Rivers State House of Assembly passes the budget.

OPERATIVES OF THE RIVERS STATE POLICE COMMAND ARREST CHILD TRAFFICKING SUSPECTS AND RESCUE VICTIMS

The Rivers State Police Command has recorded another milestone in its efforts to combat child trafficking, with the successful apprehension of suspects and the rescue of victims.

On January 24, 2025, operatives of the Command arrested two suspects, Ugochukwu Onyebuchi (f) and Ogechi Nmezi (f), for allegedly conspiring to defraud Juliet Blossom (f) and Esther Michael (f) under the pretence of facilitating baby adoptions.

Previously, the suspects had reportedly lured one Gift Chimanu, the mother of a two-month-old baby girl, Evidence Olomachukwu Chimanu, and Hope Onyebuchi, the mother of a one-year-old baby boy, Chukwuemeka Kingsley, into their scheme.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspects acted in collaboration with members of a local vigilante group, OSPAC, to perpetrate the crime.

During interrogation, the suspects confessed to their involvement and are still in police custody. Efforts are ongoing to identify and apprehend other syndicate members, including the implicated OSPAC members.

The victims have been safely rescued and reunited with their families. This operation underscores the unwavering commitment of the Rivers State Police Command to safeguarding vulnerable individuals and eradicating child trafficking within the state.
