ONLINE TEACHING HAS A WAY OF HUMBLING YOU... 😂
People often think the hardest part of online teaching is the technology.
It's not.
The real challenge?
Keeping a child's attention.
You can have the fastest internet, the clearest camera, the best digital whiteboard, and the most expensive gadgets...
But if your lesson isn't engaging, your student has already checked out. 😅
I've had students suddenly become "very hungry" in the middle of a lesson.
Some remember they need water for the third time in 30 minutes. 😂
Others start showing me every toy they own instead of solving the question on the screen.
And then there are the little comedians...
One of my students once disappeared from the screen for almost two minutes.
I kept calling his name.
No response.
Just as I was about to message his mum, he popped back up with a superhero cape tied around his neck and proudly announced,
"Teacher Sandra, I'm ready to save the world now!" 🦸🏽♂️🤣
Needless to say, maths had to wait while we discussed his "mission."
Moments like these remind me that online teaching isn't just about delivering lessons.
It's about connecting with children, understanding their world, and making learning exciting enough that they want to come back for the next class.
The gadgets help.
The apps help.
But nothing beats a teacher who knows how to make learning fun.
