People often look at a woman experiencing abuse and ask…
“Why is she still there?”
But sometimes the better question is, “What has made leaving so difficult for her?”
Some women stay because they have children.
Some because they have nowhere to go.
Some because they depend financially on the person hurting them.
Some because they’ve been threatened.
Some because their confidence has been destroyed little by little.
And some stay because they keep hoping that the person they married will come back.
But love should never require you to live in fear.
A marriage certificate is not a license to destroy another person’s dignity.
Anger is not an excuse to hurt someone.
Infidelity does not justify violence.
Financial pressure does not justify violence.
And being a husband does not give a man ownership over his wife’s body.
Your wife is not your punching bag.
Your husband is not your punching bag.
No human being is.
There is nothing masculine about beating a woman.
Real strength is restraint.
Real strength is walking away before anger becomes dangerous.
Real strength is being able to disagree without destroying the person standing in front of you.
And to every woman hiding bruises beneath her clothes , pretending everything is fine because you’re afraid of what people will say. Your life matters more than people’s opinions.
Your safety matters more than the appearance of a perfect marriage.
And leaving does not mean you failed.
Sometimes…leaving means you finally chose to survive.
