⚠️ 1. Picking the Wrong Page Category
💬 What They Do:
They create a Facebook or Instagram page and just randomly select “Public Figure,” “Entrepreneur,” “Community,” or worse — leave it on the default without even knowing what it means.
😬 Why It’s a Problem:
The category you choose tells the platform what kind of content you’re making and who to show it to. It’s like putting yourself in the wrong shelf in a supermarket. Your audience won’t find you, and worse — Facebook might not consider you eligible for monetization programs like:
• Reels Play Bonus
• In-stream ads
• Subscriptions
• Branded content
A page tagged as “Non-profit” or “Community” might not even get access to creator tools.
✅ What To Do Instead:
• Choose something like: “Video Creator,” “Digital Creator,” “Blogger,” or “Entertainer”
• You can change this anytime in your page settings (so do it now if yours is janky).
📌 Pro-Tip: Facebook is giving more visibility to pages that are clearly creator-focused. They even auto-suggest it now — lean into that.

⚠️ 2. Assuming All Countries Qualify for Monetization
💬 What They Do:
They go full steam ahead creating content, expecting to get paid — only to realize after months of posting that their country isn’t even eligible for certain monetization features.
😬 Why It’s a Problem:
Facebook, YouTube, TikTok — they don’t offer equal access across all regions. If you’re in Nigeria, for example:
• You can’t access Reels Play Bonuses on Facebook.
• In-stream ads might be limited or not available unless you partner with someone abroad.
• Stars and Subscriptions are still being rolled out and might not be available to you.
Creators in countries like the US, UK, and Canada have full access, while others are on a restricted list.
So you might be eligible for some features… but not all.
✅ What To Do Instead:
• Check platform-specific monetization eligibility lists regularly. Facebook updates theirs here: https://www.facebook.com/business/help/100250929997756
• Use a partner manager or affiliate program if you’re in a limited country.
• Focus on indirect monetization:
• Grow your audience
• Build a digital product or course
• Use affiliate marketing
• Accept sponsorships/brand deals directly
📌 Pro-Tip: Some creators set up business entities in eligible countries (with the right support/legal structure) to access better monetization features — but tread carefully and legally.
