Press Release:
EMOHUA COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT!
Community development is a process where people come together to take action on what's important to them.
At it’s heart, community development is rooted in the belief that all people should have access to health, wellbeing, wealth, justice and opportunity.
It recognises that some people, some groups and some communities are excluded and oppressed by the way society and structures are organised. Community development seeks to challenge this and ensure fairness for all citizens.
In practice, community development:
* supports communities, of place and identity, to use their own assets to improve the quality of community life.
* helps communities and public agencies to work together to improve services and the way in which decisions are made.
Community development is fundamentally based on the values of human rights, social justice, equality and respect for diversity.
The principles which underpin its practice are:
* Self-determination - people and communities have the right to make their own choices and decisions.
* Empowerment - people should be able to control and use their own assets and means to influence.
* Collective action - coming together in groups or organisations strengthens peoples’ voices.
* Working and learning together - collaboration and sharing experiences is vital to good community activity.
Examples of community development?
These include good schools and educational offerings; convenient access to goods and services; easily available public transportation; streets that are both walkable and bikeable; availability of jobs; a mix of housing; health and wellness centers; parks; gardens and activities that improve quality of life.
Elements of community development?
It then outlines seven major concerns in community development work: relationships, structure, power, shared meaning, communication for change, motivations for decision making, and integrating disparate concerns.
What Is Community Development Project?.
A Community Development Project refers to an organized effort aimed at improving the social, economic, and environmental conditions within a specific community or group of communities. The primary goal of such projects is to empower and enhance the well-being of the community members by addressing their needs and aspirations.
Key characteristics of a Community Development Project include:
* Participatory Approach: Projects typically involve active participation from community members in the planning, decision-making, and implementation processes. The idea is to ensure that the initiatives truly reflect the needs and desires of the community.
* Sustainable Development: Community development projects focus on long-term solutions that can be sustained by the community even after the project ends. This may involve capacity building, skill development, and the establishment of local resources.
* Multiple Objectives: Projects can have various goals, including improving education, healthcare, infrastructure, livelihood opportunities, environmental conservation, social cohesion, and more.
* Collaborative Efforts: Successful community development projects often require collaboration between the community, local organizations, NGOs, government agencies, and other stakeholders.
* Needs Assessment: Prior to initiating the project, a comprehensive needs assessment is conducted to identify the specific challenges and requirements of the community.
* Monitoring and Evaluation: Monitoring and evaluating the project’s progress and impact are essential to ensure its effectiveness and make any necessary adjustments.
* Capacity Building: Community members may be provided with training and support to enhance their skills and knowledge, enabling them to take an active role in the project and its sustainability.
* Empowerment and Inclusivity: Community development projects aim to empower individuals and groups, particularly marginalized or vulnerable populations, to actively participate in decision-making processes and improve their living conditions.
