AGWUT-OBOLO YOUTH ASSOCIATION CONDEMNS KILLING OF COMMUNITY CHIEF.

The Agwut-Obolo Youth Association has strongly condemned the brutal killing of its community leader, Chief Alfred Etete, who was reportedly shot dead in his residence by unknown gunmen.

In a statement issued on February 27, 2026, and signed by the Secretary General, Ikator Lifetime, the association described the incident as “atrocious, senseless, and an assault on the entire Agwut-Obolo community.”

According to the statement, the late chief was regarded as a symbol of leadership, peace, and unity within the community. The association expressed deep outrage over the circumstances surrounding his death, noting that such violence threatens the stability and harmony of the area.

“This abhorrent act is not only an attack on an individual but on the very fabric of our community and the values we hold dear,” the statement read.

The youth body called on relevant security agencies to launch a thorough investigation into the incident and ensure that those responsible are apprehended and brought to justice. It emphasized the need for collective efforts to maintain peace and security in the community.

The association also urged members of Agwut-Obolo and the wider public to remain united during this difficult period, encouraging solidarity and mutual support.

The statement concluded with a pledge to uphold the legacy of Chief Alfred Etete and to continue working towards the peace and development of the community.

The tragic incident has left residents in shock as they mourn the loss of one of their community leader.

Ataba Road Project Resumes

The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has resumed work on the Kaa-Ataba Link Road in Andoni LGA of Rivers State.

The road when completed will open up Ataba Town to Kaa Community in Khana LGA by road and allow commuters to drive down to the beautiful city of Ataba.

We commend the Dr. Samuel Ogbuku led management of the NDDC for the resumption and appeal that they finish the project on schedule.

Andoni is developing massively.

EKEDE COMMUNITY CROWNS NEW MONARCH IN ANDONI.

Report reaching me now is that, the Ekede community in Andoni Local Government Area of Rivers State has officially installed a new traditional ruler. King Gad Harry Ekprikpo, JP, KSC (Nde XI) was coronated as the Okanama of Ekede Town in a well-attended historic traditional ceremony— the first of its kind in over 70 years.

The coronation took place on Monday, 26 January 2026, at the community’s ancestral and sacred land, the "Isi-Izon Ama" Ekede, marking a significant moment in the history of the Ekede people.

The colourful ceremony attracted community elders, chiefs, sons and daughters of Ekede, as well as well-wishers, who gathered to witness the ascension of the new monarch to the revered stool. Traditional rites and cultural displays highlighted the rich heritage and customs of the Ekede kingdom.

King Gad Harry Ekprikpo (Nde XI) succeeds his predecessors with a mandate to uphold the traditions of the land, promote peace, unity, and development within Ekede community and Andoni at large.

The people of Ekede have expressed optimism and high expectations, praying for a peaceful and progressive reign under the leadership of the new king.

JTF Deployed to Oyorokoto Community Amid Rising Insecurity

Reports reaching our news desk [] confirm that security personnel comprising the Joint Task Force (JTF) have been deployed and stationed in Oyorokoto community in Andoni today, Sunday, 25th January.

The deployment follows growing concerns over the recent rise in insecurity in the area, which reportedly forced residents to flee their homes in search of safety. Community members had earlier raised alarm over threats to lives and property, prompting calls for urgent government and security intervention.

The presence of the JTF is expected to restore calm, reassure residents, and create a secure environment that will encourage displaced persons to return to their homes and resume normal activities. Residents are hopeful that sustained security presence will curb cult-related disturbances and prevent further escalation of tension in the community.
