Mama’s Journey to the Evil Forest

Episode 12

The Power of Forgiveness

The crowd gasped when the Stone of Silence pointed toward the eldest man, Okorie—the same elder who first accused Mama.

He stepped back, his face pale. No! It’s a lie! She bewitched the stone!

But the stone glowed brighter, and his own wife fell to her knees crying,
My husband, stop lying! I saw you at the stream that night! You poured something inside a pot and said the gods would punish Mama!

The people shouted in anger. Some rushed forward with sticks and stones.
Let him die! He cursed our children!

Mama raised her hand. Her voice broke the noise like thunder.
Enough!

Everyone froze. She stepped forward, the stone glowing softly in her palm. Her eyes were full of tears.
Yes, he wronged me. Yes, he wanted me dead. But I will not let anger rule this village again. We have suffered enough.

She turned to Okorie. Elder, you poisoned your own people because of jealousy. Look around you—these are the faces you almost destroyed. I could let them punish you, but I choose a different path.

The crowd fell silent. Even the wind stopped moving.

Mama looked up at the sky and said,
If the forest taught me one thing, it is that love is stronger than fear. I forgive you, Okorie. But your heart must carry the weight of your deed. Go and confess to the river. Let the gods judge you.

Okorie fell to his knees, weeping. He confessed before everyone, tears running down his old face. The villagers dropped their weapons. Shame filled their hearts.

They untied Mama’s hands and bowed before her.
Forgive us, Mother of Good Heart. We doubted you.

Mama looked at them gently. Rise. We are one people. Let this be the last time envy leads us to darkness.

That night, peace returned to Umuama. The sickness faded. The air smelled clean again. Children played under the moonlight, their laughter echoing like a song of healing.

And Mama sat quietly by her doorway, the Stone of Silence resting beside her.

She whispered,
The greatest power is not to fight, but to forgive.

Mama’s Journey to the Evil Forest

‎Episode 11

Betrayal in the Village

‎By morning, the sickness had grown worse. The chief priest gathered the villagers under the great iroko tree. His voice carried sorrow and fear.

‎The gods are angry again. We must find the source of this plague. The spirits whisper that it is connected to the Stone of Silence.

‎The crowd turned as one, their eyes falling on Mama Nkechi.

‎Her children clung to her, crying, Mama, they want to take you away!

‎The men moved closer, spears in their hands. Some women wept, begging them not to harm her, but the voices of anger were louder.

‎One man shouted, She is cursed! The spirits gave her power. That is why she walked through the forest and returned alive. No ordinary woman could do that!”

‎Mama stood, her wrapper soaked with sweat. Her voice was soft, but steady.
‎My people, you have forgotten too quickly. Did I not go into the Evil Forest for you? Did I not risk my life so your children could eat again? Why do you now raise your hands against me?

‎But envy and fear blinded their hearts. They tied her hands with rope and dragged her toward the square. Her children screamed, trying to follow, but were pulled back.

‎That night, she was locked in the shrine, guarded by warriors. Alone in the darkness, she prayed. Tears rolled down her face, but she whispered,
‎Gods of the forest, if I am guilty, let me perish. But if I am innocent, reveal the truth.

‎At midnight, the Stone of Silence glowed where it lay beside her. A vision filled her eyes: she saw not spirits, but a man—one of the jealous elders—mixing poison into the village stream.

‎Mama gasped. The sickness was not from the spirits. It was from human greed.

‎The next morning, she stood before the people, the stone glowing in her hands. Her voice was clear.
‎You fear me, yet the true danger is among you. The sickness is not from me, nor from the forest. It is from one of your own.

‎The villagers murmured, some shocked, some doubtful. The elders grew restless, shifting uneasily.

‎And then, the stone shone brighter, pointing like a finger…

‎Straight at the guilty elder.

Mama’s Journey to the Evil Forest

Episode 10

The Jealous Ones

At first, the whole village celebrated Mama Nkechi. They praised her name, carried her children on their shoulders, and sang songs about her courage. But after some days, whispers began to grow like weeds.

Some men sat under the udala tree and muttered,
Why should one woman carry all the glory? Was she not chosen by chance? What if she brought the famine instead of ending it?

Others nodded. Envy burned in their hearts.

One night, as Mama pounded yam for her children, three elders came to her hut. Their faces were stern, their eyes sharp. The eldest spoke,
Mama Nkechi, the people respect you too much. But respect can turn into fear. Some say you made a deal with the spirits. Some say you are no longer a woman, but half-spirit yourself. Tell us, what really happened in the Evil Forest?

Mama put down her pestle. Her heart hurt at their words, but her voice remained calm.
I walked into the forest with nothing but love for my children and my people. The spirits tested me, but love guided me through. That is the truth.

But the elders did not believe. They left in silence, their suspicion heavy in the air.

Days later, a sickness spread in the village. Children coughed, men grew weak, and goats fell dead in their pens. The people grew afraid again. Their eyes turned to Mama.

It is her! some shouted. She carried something back from the forest. The spirits are angry with her!

Mama’s children cried, hiding in her hut as stones were thrown at the roof. Her heart ached, not from the stones, but from the people she had suffered for.

Still, she lifted her head and whispered,
If this is another test, then I will not run. A mother does not turn her back on her children—even when those children doubt her.

That night, Mama took the Stone of Silence and placed it before her. She prayed, her tears falling on the glowing surface.

And in the quiet of the night, the stone answered with a soft voice:
Your journey is not finished.

Mama’s Journey to the Evil Forest

‎Episode 9

‎When the Rain Returned

‎The night after Mama brought back the Stone of Silence, the sky changed. Clouds gathered above the village, dark and heavy. For many moons, the land had been dry, but now the air smelled of water.

‎Then it happened.

‎A drop of rain fell, soft on Mama’s roof. Another drop. Then many. Soon, the heavens opened, and rain poured over Umuama village. Children ran out with their arms wide, laughing and dancing. Women raised their faces to the sky, tears mixing with the rain. Men shouted with joy, beating drums to thank the gods.

‎Mama sat under the rain, her children clinging to her sides. The stone glowed faintly in her hands. She whispered,
‎You see, my children? The gods do not need blood. They only test our hearts.

‎The next morning, the land drank deeply. The yam vines grew green again, the river swelled with fresh water, and the air carried the smell of new life.

‎The villagers gathered and declared Mama Nkechi not just a mother, but a hero. They gave her a new name: Nne Obioma—Mother of Good Heart.

‎But while the people rejoiced, whispers spread in the forest beyond. The spirits had been challenged by a woman, and though she returned victorious, not all of them were pleased.

‎Mama’s journey was not over.

Mama’s Journey to the Evil Forest

‎Episode 8

‎The Return

‎At last, Mama saw the end of the forest. Bright daylight poured through the trees like golden water. Her heart beat fast. She clutched the Stone of Silence tighter and hurried forward.

‎When she stepped out, the villagers were waiting. They had been watching the forest edge day and night, fearing she would never return.

‎The moment they saw her red head cloth and the shining stone in her hands, a cry of joy rose from the people. Women threw their wrappers in the air. Children ran toward her. Men beat their chests in respect.

‎But Mama’s children were faster than everyone else. They rushed into her arms, holding her tightly, crying and laughing at the same time.
‎Mama, you came back! Mama, we thought the spirits took you!

‎Mama knelt, hugging them close. Tears rolled down her cheeks, but her smile was strong.
‎My children, I went with fear, but I returned with love. The spirits tested me, but I carried your names in my heart. That is what brought me home.

‎The chief priest stepped forward, his staff raised high. He touched the stone and bowed.
‎The gods have accepted this sacrifice. The famine will end. Rain will fall again. All because one mother was brave enough to face the Evil Forest.

‎That night, the village drums beat, not in fear, but in celebration. The people danced around the fire, singing Mama Nkechi’s name.

‎But Mama did not dance. She sat quietly, her children beside her, the stone resting in her lap. She looked at the sky, at the stars shining above.

‎And she whispered,
‎A mother’s love is stronger than fear. Stronger than hunger. Stronger than death.

‎The forest, far in the distance, was silent at last.

Mama’s Journey to the Evil Forest

‎Episode 7

‎ The Last Trap

‎With the Stone of Silence in her hands, Mama felt a strange strength in her body. Her tired legs became lighter. The blue glow now lit her path like a lantern, guiding her back toward the way she had come.

‎But the Evil Forest does not let go so easily.

‎As Mama walked, the trees grew taller, their roots twisting across the path like snakes. The air turned heavy again. A sharp cry echoed—a cry that sounded like her own voice calling for help.

‎Then the ground beneath her feet cracked. From the earth rose a creature unlike any she had seen. Its body was half-beast, half-human, with horns like a ram and claws like iron. Its eyes burned red, and its teeth were long like knives.

‎It blocked her way and roared, shaking the ground.

‎I am the last gate, it thundered. No one leaves this forest alive. Give me the stone, and I will let you die quickly.

‎Mama’s hands shook, but she clutched the stone tightly. She thought of her children waiting outside, her people depending on her. She raised her voice, though it trembled:

‎I did not fight fear, hunger, and trickery only to give up now. If you want the stone, you must take it from my dead hands.

‎The beast laughed, a sound that shook the trees. Then it charged at her.

‎Mama closed her eyes, held the stone to her chest, and whispered,
‎Spirits of this forest, if my love is true, protect me now.

‎The stone suddenly glowed brighter, blinding white. The roar of the beast stopped. When Mama opened her eyes, the creature was gone. Only ashes remained where it had stood.

‎The forest grew silent again—truly silent, as if it had finally accepted her. The path ahead opened, leading to the edge of the forest where daylight shone.

‎Mama took a deep breath, tears rolling down her cheeks.
‎One more step, Mama. Just one more step home.

‎And she walked forward, the stone safe in her hands.

Mama’s Journey to the Evil Forest

‎Episode 6

‎ The Guardian of the Stone

‎Mama walked until her legs felt like heavy wood. The forest grew quieter with each step. No birds. No wind. Only the sound of her own breathing.

‎Then she reached a wide clearing. In the middle stood a flat rock glowing with blue light. On top of it lay the Stone of Silence—small, smooth, shining like the moon.

‎But she was not alone.

‎Beside the stone stood a figure. It was neither man nor woman. Its skin was like bark, its eyes like deep rivers, old and endless. Around its neck hung bones of animals and humans.

‎When it spoke, the forest itself seemed to listen.
‎Woman, you have come far. Few have reached this place. But the stone does not belong to the living. Why should I let you carry it?

‎Mama’s throat went dry, but she bowed slightly, her voice steady.
‎I came not for myself. I came for my children who cry in hunger. I came for my people who need rain. If my life is the price, then take it. But let the stone return with me.

‎The guardian’s eyes glowed brighter. It circled her slowly, its footsteps heavy on the ground.
‎You faced the spirit of trickery, hunger, and fear. You did not run. You did not give in. But the last test is here—

‎It raised its hand, and suddenly her children appeared in the clearing. Her daughter and son, reaching out to her, crying, Mama! Mama, take us home!

‎Mama’s heart broke. She wanted to run to them, to hold them close. But she looked deeper—she saw their feet were not touching the ground. Their shadows were missing.

‎Tears filled her eyes. She whispered,
‎You are not my children. My real children wait for me outside this forest.

‎The images vanished like smoke. The guardian stopped moving and stared at her for a long moment. Then it nodded slowly.

‎You are brave. You are true. Take the stone. And remember—silence is not empty. It is full of answers.

‎The Stone of Silence floated from the rock into Mama’s hands. It was warm, glowing gently.

‎For the first time, the forest around her grew calm. The trees no longer whispered. The shadows no longer stirred.

‎Mama held the stone to her chest and whispered,
‎For my children… for my people.
