NDC Course 34: Nigeria Links Industrial Growth to National Security

Former President Goodluck Jonathan, Defence Minister Christopher Musa (Rtd.), Chief of Army Staff Lt. Gen. Waidi Shaibu, and other senior security leaders have highlighted the importance of industrial development to Nigeria’s security and economic resilience.

Speaking at the National Defence College Course 34 Graduation Lecture in Abuja, Jonathan focused on “Harnessing Industrial Capacity for Inclusive Growth and Regional Stability in Africa.” The discussion emphasised stronger local production, technology, reduced dependence on external sources, and industrial growth as important pillars of national defence and long-term stability.

SAVEALIFE HOSPITAL: WHERE TECHNOLOGY IS CHANGING THE WAY WE ACCESS HEALTHCARE

I visited SaveALife Hospital in Port Harcourt on Thursday and had the opportunity to meet with the Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Richard Okoye, to learn more about how technology is transforming healthcare delivery at the facility.

The platform provides access to telemedicine, medical consultations, hospital registration, appointment booking and other services.

What makes the concept particularly interesting is the way it connects patients with healthcare professionals in real time, using technology to make medical care more accessible and convenient.

For me, the experience was a clear demonstration of how technology can change the way healthcare is delivered in Africa.

SaveALife Hospital is not just talking about the future of healthcare,it is using technology to bring that future closer to the people.

Defence Minister Unveils South-East Basketball Championship, Supports Youth Development

The Minister of Defence, General Christopher Gwabin Musa (Rtd), has announced plans to establish a South-East Regional Basketball Championship to identify and develop young sporting talent across the region.

During a visit to the Umuahia Township Stadium in Abia State, the minister also donated ₦2 million to support a grassroots basketball camp, describing sports as a powerful tool for youth empowerment, leadership development and national unity.

He further revealed that the Armed Forces of Nigeria will introduce sports-based recruitment initiatives to provide talented young athletes with opportunities for military careers.

Imo Eyes Agro-Industrial Expansion Following Cotonou Visit

Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma says his administration is working to strengthen agro-industrial development following a working visit to Cotonou alongside Vice President Kashim Shettima.

After inspecting integrated textile and agro-processing facilities at the Glo-Djigbe Industrial Zone (GDIZ), the Governor expressed interest in adapting successful aspects of the model to Imo State.

He highlighted Okigwe, Ohaji/Egbema and Ngor Okpala as strategic areas for agro-processing development, with the goal of adding value to agricultural produce, creating economic opportunities and expanding access to domestic and export markets.

Egyptian Pharmaceutical Firm Eyes Abia for Drug Manufacturing Investment

Abia State is set to attract a major pharmaceutical investment as Utopia, an Egyptian pharmaceutical company, has proposed establishing a drug manufacturing plant in the state.

Governor Alex Otti welcomed the proposal, describing it as an opportunity to drive local pharmaceutical production, create jobs, promote technology transfer, and boost the state's economy. The government also pledged to provide the necessary support, including land, to ensure the project's successful takeoff.

If completed, the investment is expected to strengthen Abia's position as an emerging pharmaceutical manufacturing hub in Nigeria and West Africa.

Senate Summons 47 Agencies Over Alleged Unremitted Revenue

The Senate has summoned 47 Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), including the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), NNPC Limited, Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), and NIMASA, to explain alleged revenue shortfalls and other financial issues identified in audit reports.

The Senate Committee on Finance said the agencies are expected to provide explanations as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen transparency, accountability, and compliance with Nigeria's public finance laws.
