MFM Orders Nationwide Curfew on Church Activities, Suspends Overnight Vigils Amid Security Fears
The Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries (MFM) has directed all its branches across Nigeria to end all church programmes by 8:00 pm and discontinue vigils and overnight prayer meetings indefinitely, citing growing security challenges in the country.
The instruction was issued in an internal circular dated June 5, 2026, and signed by the Director of Administration at the church’s international headquarters in Lagos, Temitope A. Olawale.
According to the statement, the adjustment was made to prioritise the safety of members and church workers in light of the prevailing security situation nationwide.
It further mandated that all services, meetings, and other church-related gatherings must now conclude no later than 8:00 pm. Overnight vigils, a key feature of the ministry’s activities, have been put on hold until further notice.
The church noted that in special cases where vigils were previously scheduled, such events should be restructured into evening programmes, but must still end within the 8:00 pm deadline.
Describing the measure as both preventive and compulsory, the ministry stressed strict compliance across all levels of its structure.
“These guidelines are precautionary and aimed at protecting the lives and welfare of our members given the current security realities in the country. All ministers, departments, and units are expected to adhere strictly,” the memo stated.
The directive has been circulated to principal regional overseers, senior regional overseers, mega regional overseers, zonal pastors, and local branch leaders for immediate implementation.
The development comes amid heightened insecurity concerns in several parts of Nigeria, including rising cases of banditry, kidnappings, and attacks on rural communities.
