THE OKPARA VISION: THE SOUTHEAST CAN RISE AGAIN

Who was Dr. Michael Okpara?

Dr. Michael Iheonukara Okpara was the Premier of Eastern Nigeria from 1959 to 1966—a leader who demonstrated that visionary leadership, agriculture, industrialisation, education and collective purpose could transform an entire region.

The Eastern Region of his era was widely recognised for its remarkable economic and industrial development.

The question today is: Can the Igbo region reproduce that vision—and go even further?

YES.

The Igbo region has the human capital, entrepreneurial spirit, technology, markets, diaspora resources, agricultural potential and strategic location to become one of the fastest-growing economic regions in the world in this generation.

What we need is not a lack of resources.

What we need is UNITY OF PURPOSE.

One vision.
One economic agenda.
Regional cooperation.
Industrialisation.

While the Indigenous Igbo Congress IIC is working tirelessly In the face of threats and intimidation to unite the Coastal Igbos back to the larger Igbo Nation, some Igbos of South East are making further efforts to destroy it.

The IIC is in a battle with five set of people namely:

Igbos of South East living in Rivers State who out of greed and self-gratification wants the existing identity crisis to continue.

Ijaws who wants to annex Igbo extractions.

Ikwerre Revisionists who wants to indoctrinate our people to believe they're bini descendants for their political gains.

The government who deliberately balkanized the Igbo Nation and then sowed a seed of discord amongst us.

And now, even those who claims to be uniting Igbos have all been exposed as part of a gang up to keep Igbos perpetually disunited.

If you're a sincere Igbo man, please pray for the IIC movement.

How then can we develop the Igbo Economic Coridor that will be a global power house,mind you we can do what China is currently doing with our creative abilities,we need a united frontline as a people,a house divided against itself can not stand.

THE IGBO AND THE INDIGENOUS HISTORY OF YORUBALAND

The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, has publicly spoken of an ancient Igbo presence in Ile-Ife, including different Igbo groups preserved in Ife traditions.

This raises an important historical question:

If Igbo people were present in ancient Ife, what happened to them?

Did they migrate to other parts of the region? Did they remain and intermarry with other populations? Or were they gradually absorbed into emerging Yoruba kingdoms, adopting Yoruba language and identity?

If these traditions are historically valid, then it is reasonable to acknowledge that Igbo people or Igbo-associated populations were also part of the ancient population history of the territory that later became known as Yorubaland.

This does not diminish Yoruba history or identity. Rather, it reminds us that precolonial West Africa was shaped by migration, intermarriage, assimilation and cultural integration.

The history of communities such as Ife, Ondo, Ekiti, Ibarapa and Igbo-Ora deserves deeper research to determine whether traces of these ancient populations survive in today's communities.

History should be investigated objectively—not limited by today's ethnic boundaries.

We are calling for ancentrial DNA test so indigenous igbo communities will know their true identity.

THE ARO CONNECTION: ANCESTRY, MIGRATION AND THE HISTORY OF THE LAND

Ibibio historical traditions have been linked to Aro ancestry, while some Ikwerre voices today reject Igbo identity and trace their roots to Benin.

However, the historical narrative surrounding Akalaka and Ochichi raises another important question.

According to the tradition being discussed, Akalaka and Ochichi came from Benin, but when they arrived, an Aro man known as Nwagidi was already on the land. This raises the question: if Nwagidi was already established there before their arrival, what does that tell us about the earlier history and ownership of the territory?

The tradition further holds that Akalaka and Ochichi later returned home because of the war of Idu, adding another layer to the complex history of migration, settlement and ancestral connections in the region.

History should therefore be examined through oral traditions, migration accounts, archaeology, colonial records and independent historical evidence, rather than through modern ethnic claims alone.

The real question is not simply “Who claims the land today?” but “Who was there first, who migrated, and what does the historical evidence actually show?”

Any one not sure of his roots should go ahead and do what is called ancentrial DNA test to ascertain ones true identity.
