VDM Accuses Security Forces of Being ‘Unknown Gunmen’ at NBA Conference

Social media activist Martins Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), on Tuesday accused Nigeria’s military, police, immigration and customs of being the real “unknown gunmen” terrorising the country.

Speaking at the 2026 NBA Annual General Conference in Port Harcourt on a panel titled “Known Gun Men,” VDM told security chiefs present: “There are no unknown gunmen anywhere.

The military men are the unknown gunmen, the Immigration, the Customs – they are the unknown gunmen.”

He alleged that agencies know the identities and locations of kidnappers and attackers but refuse to act.

VDM also claimed police checkpoints, especially on the Lagos-Abuja route, are used to identify wealthy travellers and tip off criminals.

Military representatives on the panel strongly pushed back, warning him against making sweeping allegations without evidence and comparing the claim to saying “all lawyers are corrupt.”

VDM later issued a partial apology, saying he may have been misunderstood and did not mean the entire military.

He still received a special recognition award from the NBA for sharing his experiences on insecurity.

The tense exchange has sparked widespread debate online.

Abia APC: Win Your Polling Unit or Forget Federal Jobs

Abia APC has drawn a clear red line ahead of 2027: any leader who loses their polling unit, ward or constituency will be barred from federal appointments.

State Chairman Chijioke Chukwu delivered the warning on Sunday in Umuahia during a post-primary reconciliation meeting.

He said the party will track and publicly release results from every stakeholder’s unit immediately after the election for national leadership to assess.

“If you think you have contacts in Abuja and you lose your polling unit… it is impossible under this regime,” Chukwu declared.

Rewards will now follow output, not influence.

The move signals a deliberate shift from elite patronage to grassroots performance as APC seeks to challenge Labour Party’s hold in Abia and deliver strong votes for President Tinubu.

ADC: Tinubu’s 2027 Campaign Council ‘Rehab Centre’ for Fraud-Tainted Politicians

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has described President Bola Tinubu’s APC Presidential Campaign Council as a “rehabilitation centre” for people facing unresolved corruption cases.

It specifically criticised the appointments of Betta Edu (Director of Women’s Mobilisation), suspended in 2024 over a ₦585 million private-account transfer still under EFCC probe, and Ngozi Olejeme (South-South Zonal Director), who faces an active money-laundering trial.

ADC spokesman Bolaji Abdullahi asked the government to explain if the cases were cleared and by whom, alleging probes often disappear when individuals become politically useful.

US Judge Grants FBI Private Review of Tinubu Files

A US District Court judge has approved the FBI’s request to submit sensitive records linked to Nigerian President Bola Tinubu for private (in-camera) review.

The decision by Judge Beryl Howell comes in the long-running FOIA lawsuit filed by Aaron Greenspan seeking 1990s Chicago he**in-trafficking investigation files.

The FBI cited exemptions protecting law-enforcement techniques and potential risks to individuals’ safety, arguing it could not fully justify withholdings on the public record.

The court set a firm August 28 deadline for the FBI, DEA, DOJ and Tinubu’s lawyers to file responses.

This is a procedural step in a transparency case, not a new criminal probe or finding of guilt.

Tinubu was never charged in the decades-old civil forfeiture matter.

Further rulings on what, if anything, must be released are expected after the private review.

ICPC has uncovered another fake agency, the National Brands Development and Made-in-Nigeria Special Project Office, illegally operating with office space inside the SGF’s office.

President Tinubu ordered the immediate arrest of its alleged promoter, Prince George Buchi Nwabueze, and suspended three permanent secretaries — M.S. Danjuma, Engineer Nadungu Gagare and Richard P. Pheelangwah.

The discovery stems from the ongoing probe into the earlier phantom Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council.

A U.S. federal court has rejected a joint request by the Department of Justice and President Bola Tinubu’s legal team for a 10-day delay in a Freedom of Information Act lawsuit over 1990s investigative records.

Judge Beryl Howell of the District of Columbia granted only a four-day extension, setting a firm August 21, 2026 deadline for responses.

The case, filed by activist Aaron Greenspan, seeks FBI and DEA files linked to a 1993 civil forfeiture in which Tinubu surrendered $460,000 amid allegations tied to a Chicago he**in network.

Tinubu, who denies wrongdoing and was never charged, joined the extension bid as an intervenor.

The matter has dragged on for more than three years after a 2025 ruling ordered agencies to process non-exempt records.

Cardinal John Onaiyekan, 82, has rejected the Presidency’s criticism of his public account of the Catholic bishops’ meeting with President Tinubu.

In a video response, the Archbishop Emeritus of Abuja declared:

“I cannot be embarrassed. I’m 82 years old; nobody can embarrass me. And I’m not afraid of anybody.”

He said he appeared on Arise TV to tell the truth about the July 28 engagement, not to please anyone.

The Presidency had faulted him for disclosing details of the private meeting, calling it an abuse of clerical privilege.

Onaiyekan insisted he spoke on behalf of the bishops, who raised concerns over economic hardship, insecurity and the 2027 elections.

He noted Nigeria still allows free speech, unlike many African countries.

Davido: Akpabio, Dangote Asked Me to Delete Osun Election Tweets

Afrobeats star Davido has revealed that Senate President Godswill Akpabio and billionaire Aliko Dangote called him during the Osun governorship election, urging him to delete his tweets about the process.

Speaking on News Central TV, Davido said he refused, insisting he would not remove the posts until INEC announced the results.

He had accused Akpabio of trying to stop collation and flagged delays in IReV result uploads.

Davido, who campaigned for his uncle Governor Ademola Adeleke, also alleged massive vote-buying, claiming opponents brought in about ₦110 billion. Adeleke won with 511,067 votes against APC’s Bola Oyebamiji’s 444,815.

Neither Akpabio nor Dangote has publicly responded to the claims.

Sheikh Gumi: Funding Mass Marriages Is Govt Duty Under Shariah

Islamic cleric Sheikh Ahmad Gumi has defended Kano State’s N1.5 billion mass wedding programme, saying public funding of marriages is a legitimate duty of government in Shariah-governed states.

In a Facebook post, Gumi argued that where prostitution, fornication, adultery and promiscuity are banned by both divine and state laws, the government must help young people and women who cannot afford marriage.

“Using public funds to facilitate the marriage of women who are in excess of the available pool of eligible men, or of any young person in dire need of marriage, is a legitimate and responsible component of good governance,” he wrote.

The Kano initiative, tagged Auren Gata, supports about 1,500 couples with cash, household items and start-up grants.

The programme has drawn criticism over the use of scarce public funds amid poverty and unemployment in the state.
