Politics‘I refuse to participate’ – Babachir Lawal compares Atiku to bandit kingpin ‘Kachalla’

Former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF, Babachir Lawal, has likened former Vice President Atiku Abubakar to bandit kingpin ‘Kachalla’.

Lawal made the comparison in a post on his page after announcing his resignation from the African Democratic Congress, ADC.

The former SGF had announced his resignation from the ADC, alleging that the party’s recently concluded primaries were manipulated in favour of Abubakar.

Concluded primaries were at all levels massively rigged in favour of Kachalla Abubakar Atiku

“I do not intend to be part of Kachalla Atiku’s rigging machine in the 2027 general elections.

The former SGF also said he would return to his village to focus on farming while consulting with political associates on ways to prevent Atiku from winning the presidency in 2027.

You Are All Liars’ – Wike Blasts NDC, ADC Over Move To Takeover Nigeria.

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has described members of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) as known liars.

reports that Wike accused the opposition parties of misleading Nigerians with claims of political reform and democratic renewal.

The former Rivers State governor spoke on Monday during his monthly media briefing in Abuja.

Wike criticised opposition parties over what he described as internal contradictions and lack of credibility in their recently concluded primaries.

He specifically mentioned the ADC and NDC, accusing them of claiming moral superiority while battling internal disputes.

According to him, parties that present themselves as new and untainted have failed to conduct credible internal elections without controversy.

Wike said recent disputes in opposition parties showed that the same problems they accuse the ruling party of also exist within their own structures.

The Minister said, “They said they are the saviour that will come. What has happened now?

DSS Arrests Five Suspects, Including Two Foreign Nationals, Over Papiri School Kidnap Arms Supply.

The Department of State Services (DSS) has arrested five suspected arms couriers, including two citizens of Niger Republic, allegedly linked to the gunmen behind the mass abduction at St. Mary's Catholic School in Papiri, Niger State, in November 2025.

Security sources said the suspects were apprehended during a series of intelligence-led operations that also led to the recovery of 15 AK-103 rifles, 15 magazines and 1,434 rounds of live 7.62mm ammunition.

According to the sources, Yusuf Mohammed, also known as Bature, a wanted member of Jama'atu Ahlis Sunna Lidda'awati wal-Jihad, commonly known as Boko Haram, and his associate, Mubarak Ibrahim, were arrested along the Zaria-Kaduna highway while allegedly travelling to collect a consignment of weapons for insurgent commanders.

The sources said follow-up operations led to the arrest of Goni Ibrahim, described as an international arms courier from the Diffa Region of Niger Republic, and his accomplice, Tukur Sani.

"Recovered from the suspects' vehicle were 15 AK-103 rifles, 15 magazines and 1,434 rounds of live ammunition concealed in a blue car," one of the security sources said.

The DSS reportedly expanded its investigation and, days later, arrested another suspected member of the arms trafficking network, Alhaji Adamu, also known as Gado Banufe, in Yauri, Kebbi State.

Security sources said preliminary investigations indicated that the five suspects acted as arms suppliers and couriers for the gunmen responsible for the attack on St. Mary's Catholic primary and secondary boarding school in Papiri village on Nov. 21, 2025.

The attack occurred when dozens of armed men riding motorcycles stormed the school in the early hours of the morning, rounding up students and teachers at gunpoint.

While about 50 students escaped during the chaos, more than 250 others were taken into the Kainji Lake Reserve forest.

After weeks in captivity, government authorities announced on Dec. 21, 2025, that the remaining 130 abductees had been rescued and safely reunited with their families.

The DSS has yet to issue an official statement on the arrests, but security officials described the operation as a significant breakthrough in efforts to dismantle the networks supplying weapons to criminal and terrorist groups operating across northern Nigeria.

Appeal Court Sacks Wike’s Backed APC Exco in Rivers.

The Court of Appeal sitting in Port Harcourt, on Friday, upheld the judgement of the Rivers State High Court nullifying the All Progressives Congress (APC) Congresses that produced Chief Tony Okocha and other members of his executive council in the state.

The sacked Chairman and his exco are allies of the Minister of Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike.

Daily Trust recalls that Justice Obomanu of the Rivers State High Court had on December 20 2024, nullified the Congresses conducted in Rivers state by the APC which purportedly produced Tony Okocha & Co.

The sacked exco later filed a suit at the Appeal Court to upturn Justice Obomanu’s judgement.

Delivering the judgement on Friday in Port Harcourt, Justice Elfreida Oluwayemisi Williams-Dawodu of the Court of Appeal, Port Harcourt Division, upheld the decision of the Rivers State High Court nullifying the Congresses.

Daily Trust gathered that with the judgement, all decisions and representations made by the Chief Tony Okocha led exco on behalf of the APC, between December 20 2024 till date, is null, void and of no effect.

Also, the candidates produced by the party ahead of the general election in the state may face the risk of being disqualified.

Reacting to the judgement, the Tony Okocha led exco in the state, said there is no threat to the status of the exco pending full trial.

The state Publicity Secretary of APC, Chibike Ikenga, in a statement on Saturday, said the Court of Appeal only gave interlocutory appeal and sent the matter back to the Court of first instance for full trial.

He said: “The Leadership of the All Progressives Congress, Rivers State are aware of the judgement of the Court of Appeal, Port Harcourt dated Friday, 29th May, 2026 in an Interlocutory Appeal and Matter sent back to the Court of first instance for full trial in(APPEAL NO: CA/PH/523/2024: APC & ANOR. V OKWU JOEBROWN NDIKE filed by the All Progressives Congress (APC) challenging the jurisdiction of the High court directing the parties to ‘maintain status quo’ and also challenging the competence of the suit before the Rivers State High Court.

“There is no threat to the status of the EXCO pending full trial. Our Lawyers will study the full judgment and advise on the next step.

“We advise party faithful to remain calm and not panic by the deliberate misrepresentation of the facts and circumstances of the judgement by those who lack in-depth knowledge of what transpired in the Court.”

Miyetti Allah Responds To US Commission Report, Says Peaceful Herders Should Not Be Linked To Armed Groups.

The Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) has issued a response to a recent policy update by the U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom (United States Commission on International Religious Freedom (USCIRF)), insisting that peaceful pastoralists must not be conflated with armed criminal groups operating across parts of Nigeria.

In a statement signed by MACBAN National President, Baba Othman Ngelzarma, on Friday, the group said it “carefully reviewed” the May 8, 2026 update by USCIRF on non-state violent actors in Nigeria, noting that while insecurity remains a major national concern, “millions of law-abiding Fulani citizens” should not be collectively blamed for the actions of “decentralized militant networks and bandit cells”.

The group condemned all forms of violence, including attacks on farming and herding communities, describing such incidents as “heinous” and “a supreme evil” regardless of the perpetrators’ background.

It specifically denounced attacks on places of worship, warning that assaults on churches or mosques during religious observances represent a direct violation of both constitutional and moral principles.

BREAKING: Tension as Police Seal Venue for Jonathan’s PDP Endorsement After Wike’s Threat.

Security operatives have sealed the A-Class Event Centre in Wuse 2, Abuja, effectively blocking the venue scheduled for the ratification of former President Goodluck Jonathan as the presidential candidate of a faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The Police vans, it is understood, were deployed to the scene on Friday night, completely restricting access to the facility ahead of the planned event.

The development follows a confrontation between the PDP faction backed by Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike. The Makinde-led group, which organised the special convention, had vowed to proceed with Jonathan’s endorsement despite warnings from the minister.

It should be noted that the rival faction loyal to Wike is currently the one recognised by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). However, the Makinde-backed faction has continued to assert authenticity, citing a recent Supreme Court judgement on the suspension of leaders of the Wike-backed faction.

Wike had previously issued a directive warning owners of hotels, event centres, and public facilities in Abuja against hosting events organised by political factions not officially recognised by INEC.

A statement from the FCT Administration, issued through Wike’s media aide, Lere Olayinka, defended the directive as a necessary security measure to prevent gatherings by unapproved groups that could disrupt public peace.

The minister threatened to revoke the land titles of any property violating the order.

In a counter-response before the venue was sealed, the Makinde-backed PDP faction accused Wike of using state power to suppress the opposition. The group’s National Publicity Secretary, Comrade Ini Ememobong, confirmed that the management of the A-Class Event Centre has faced threats of a total business shutdown from the FCT minister.

ISWAP Confirms Killing Of Al-Mainuki.

The Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) has confirmed the death of one of its senior figures, Abu-Bilal al-Mainuki, following a recent operation by United States Special Forces targeting the group’s enclave in the Lake Chad region of North-East Nigeria.

The confirmation was contained in a statement released through the group’s media channels, where it described members of its media unit killed during the raid as “martyrs.”

The development comes about two weeks after reports of a coordinated U.S. special operations mission that struck an ISWAP media and command facility located deep within the Lake Chad basin.

The operation involved a precision airborne assault supported by surveillance drones, intelligence assets, and attack aircraft aimed at high-value Islamic State-linked operatives.

At least three foreign ISIS-linked fighters were reportedly killed, alongside several women believed to be associated with the insurgent camp.
