Here's a brief overview:
About ghadeer khum.
Ghadeer Khum is a pivotal event in Islamic history, particularly in Shia Islam, that took place on March 10, 632 CE (18th Dhu al-Hijjah, 10 AH). It was a decisive moment when the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) publicly declared Ali ibn Abi Talib, his cousin and son-in-law, as his successor and the first Imam.
While returning from his farewell pilgrimage (Hajjat al-Wida), the Prophet stopped at Ghadeer Khum, a pond in present-day Saudi Arabia. He gathered his companions and, in a famous sermon, proclaimed Ali's leadership, saying: "Whomever's master I am, Ali is also their master" (Man Kunto Maula, Aliyun Maula).
This declaration solidified Ali's position as the rightful leader of the Muslim community after the Prophet's passing. Shia Muslims consider this event a clear indication of Ali's divine appointment as the first Imam, while Sunni Muslims also respect Ali's leadership but interpret the event differently.
Ghadeer Khum holds immense significance in Shia theology, emphasizing the importance of divine leadership and the Prophet's intention for Ali to succeed him. It's a celebrated event in Shia history, symbolizing the transfer of spiritual authority and the beginning of the Imamah (divine leadership) lineage.
