*The Shadow Behind the Smile*
Jasmine had always believed in the magic of friendship. Ever since her first day at college, she clung tightly to the people who welcomed her with open arms—especially Tasha.
Tasha was bright, bold, and full of confidence. She seemed to know everyone and everything. Jasmine, quieter and more reserved, was grateful to have someone who made her feel seen.
They went everywhere together—cafes, study groups, parties. Tasha called them "ride-or-die." Jasmine believed it.
But small things started to go wrong.
Her private stories became public gossip.
Inside jokes turned into sharp jabs in front of others.
And when Jasmine needed someone—when she failed her math midterm and broke down in tears—Tasha wasn’t there. She was out posting selfies with people Jasmine barely knew.
The final straw came at a party. Jasmine overheard Tasha laughing with a group of classmates.
“I just keep her around because she makes me look good. You know, loyal little Jasmine. Girl has no clue.”
Jasmine walked away without saying a word.
That night, she deleted the photos, the texts, the memories. It hurt, but it healed.
She started building friendships more slowly—with people who asked how she was and actually waited for the answer. People who celebrated her wins and stood with her losses. Real ones.
It took time, but Jasmine finally learned: some smiles hide shadows—and sometimes letting go is the only way to see the light.
