BREAKING:
An accident has occurred on the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway involving a container truck and an 18-seater bus. The incident happened just after Berger, outbound Lagos.

Passersby were seen assisting by removing injured passengers from the bus, as emergency responders had yet to arrive at the scene at the time of reporting.

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and other emergency agencies are expected to carry out rescue operations. The number of fatalities has not yet been confirmed.

- Training of firemen to man the facility also completed
- Fire truck ready for use, and was even used for drills by the firemen during their training.

The above are key towards the commencement of operations of the facility.

Following the recent groundbreaking of the Otovwodo Junction Flyover project in Ughelli, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori will on Monday, January 19, 2026, flag off the construction of the Uromi Junction Flyover in Agbor, Ika South Local Government Area.

The ceremony, scheduled for 11:00 a.m. prompt, underscores the administration’s steady push to modernise critical road infrastructure, with emphasis on reducing traffic bottlenecks and improving safety for road users. Construction activities on the flyover project, being executed by Julius Berger Nigeria Plc, have already commenced.

The Uromi Junction Flyover is one of the newly approved projects by the State Executive Council, coming on the heels of the near completion of three major flyovers at PTI Junction, DSC Roundabout, and Enerhen Junction along the Effurun–Warri axis.

Militants in Cross River Surrender Weapons under the State Government’s Amnesty Programme

Cross River State recorded a major peace breakthrough as many militants in Akpabuyo Local Government Area surrendered their weapons under the state government’s amnesty programme.

The Nigerian Army said the surrender happened in the early hours of January 16, 2026, when the militants came out from the creeks and reported at Atimbo Rear Area in Akpabuyo.
During the exercise, the militants willingly handed over sophisticated weapons, ammunition, and other items.

The Army explained that the militants came from two known camps. One group, led by ThankGod Ebikontei (Ayibanuagha), surrendered 39 fighters, while the second group, led by John Isaac (Akpokolo), surrendered 41 fighters. Akpokolo’s group is also known as the Akpokolo Marine Forces or Border Boys.

The Nigerian Army described the development as a positive step towards restoring peace and security in Cross River State and urged other armed groups to embrace peace.
