Did you know? There are over 200 species of squirrels worldwide, and they range in size from the African pygmy squirrel (just 3 inches long) to the Indian giant squirrel (up to 3 feet long). Squirrels are also incredible jumpers - they can leap up to 10 times their body length. They're also very good at climbing trees, and they can even climb down trees head-first! Squirrels are also very good at gathering and storing food, and they can remember the location of thousands of nuts and seeds.
Some other interesting facts about squirrels include that they're highly intelligent animals. For example, some species of squirrel can use tools to get food, like using a stick to poke a beehive and get the honey inside. They can also solve complex puzzles, and they've been known to use deception to trick other animals. Believe it or not, the blue whale is the largest and loudest animal that has ever lived on Earth, and it's a truly magnificent creature. Blue whales can grow up to 30 meters long and weigh up to 190 tons. They feed on tiny creatures called krill, which they filter out of the water with their baleen plates. Blue whales are known for their beautiful songs, which can be heard for miles under the water. These songs are thought to be a way for blue whales to communicate with each other over long distances. Blue whales are a sight to behold, and they're truly an incredible part of our planet's biodiversity.
Blue whales nurse their young just like other mammals, but their method of nursing is unique. A blue whale mother produces milk that is very high in fat, and the milk comes out of her mammary slits in squirts or jets. The baby whale then sucks the milk out of the slit with its mouth. This process happens very quickly, and it's estimated that a baby whale can drink up to 50 gallons of milk per day! Once the baby whale is weaned, it will continue to live with its mother for several years, learning how to survive in the ocean. What a marvelous feat of creation.
