MY BROTHER FELL IN LOVE WITH A GIRL HE MET AT THE RIVER UNKNOWINGLY THAT SHE WAS A MERMAID 🧜♀️ 😨
Part 1 ✍️
It all began one quiet afternoon when my brother, Lwandle, went fishing at the river near our grandmother’s village. The air was calm, the sun gentle, and the sound of flowing water was the only song that filled the air. He was a simple man — kind-hearted, hardworking, and a dreamer. But that day, something changed forever.
When he returned home later that evening, there was a strange glow in his eyes — the kind of glow that said his soul had met something divine. He kept smiling to himself, lost in thoughts none of us could enter. When our mother asked what was wrong, he simply said, “Nothing, Ma. I met someone.”
That night, he didn’t touch his food. He sat outside under the moon, staring toward the river. I went to sit with him, teasing him like sisters do. “Who’s the lucky girl?” I asked, half joking.
He looked at me with that dreamy expression and whispered, “Her name is Nare. I met her at the river. She was bathing… but she didn’t seem like any ordinary girl. Her eyes… they shimmered like water.”
At first, I thought he was joking. But when I saw how serious he was, my laughter faded. He described her long, silky hair that fell like waves, her soft voice that echoed like wind across water, and her skin that glowed faintly, even under the sun.
The next day, he went back. And then again. Every single day after that, Lwandle disappeared for hours by the river. He began wearing strange necklaces made of shells and humming songs none of us had heard before.
Our mother started to worry. “Who is this girl he keeps seeing?” she asked me one morning. “Why won’t he bring her home?”
But whenever I asked him, he would say, “She’s shy. She doesn’t like crowds.”
Strange things began happening soon after. The river started to rise at night, flooding the nearby bushes. Fishermen claimed to hear laughter beneath the water. Some even swore they saw a woman’s shadow swimming in the moonlight.
Still, my brother was drawn to her. He said she promised to meet him under the full moon — by the big rock near the bend of the river.
That night changed everything.
