🦁 ODUN ISÈSE & REMEMBRANCE OF HIGH CHIEF ISHOLA MATANMI 🦁
(LATE OLUWO OF IJOKO-OTA, AWORI KINGDOM)

A beautiful celebration of culture, heritage, family and remembrance unfolded in the ancient town of Ijoko-Ota, as family, friends, relatives and well-wishers gathered with the family of the late High Chief Ishola Matanmi, Oluwo of Ijoko-Ota, to honour his enduring legacy.

The celebration came alive with the majestic procession of “Egungun Kiniun Dawo Ija Tele”, which paraded through the ancient town of Ijoko-Ota, visiting the various sacred deity spots for prayers, blessings and traditional cleansing, in a powerful display of Yoruba ancestral heritage and spirituality. 🪘👑

The final stop was the palace of HRM Oba Alani Matanmi, the Onijoko of Ijoko-Ota, where His Royal Majesty warmly welcomed the procession, family members, friends and well-wishers. In his remarks, the monarch reaffirmed his unwavering commitment to the development of Ijoko-Ota and the preservation of its rich cultural heritage and traditions.

It was more than a celebration—it was a reconnection with our roots, remembrance of a great ancestor, and a reaffirmation of the responsibility to preserve our heritage for generations yet unborn.

ÒSÉ-ÒTÚRÁ — THE WISDOM OF BALANCE, UNITY & COEXISTENCE

“Bí a ṣe ń ṣe rere, ire a bá wa;
bí a ṣe ń ṣe ìwà rere, ayé a dùn.”

As we gather in reverence and celebration of ÌṢÈṢÈ, the sacred heritage of our ancestors, we celebrate not merely a festival, but the profound wisdom, spirituality, identity and civilization handed down to us through generations.

In the sacred wisdom of Òsé-Òtúrá, we are reminded of the importance of balance and inclusion. The ancient story of Òṣun teaches us that creation cannot flourish when one essential force is ignored. When the divine forces work together, harmony is restored and existence finds its balance.

This is the beauty of Ìṣẹ̀ṣe:

Òrìṣà and humanity are not strangers to one another.
The spiritual and the earthly are intertwined.
Nature, ancestors, humanity and the divine exist within a sacred continuum.

We therefore celebrate every Isese devotee, custodian, priest, priestess, traditionalist, cultural ambassador and lover of Yoruba heritage across the globe who continues to protect, practise and transmit this invaluable heritage.

May we never lose the knowledge of who we are.

May our children inherit not merely our names, but our language, values, history, traditions, wisdom, festivals, arts, sacred knowledge and understanding of our relationship with Olódùmarè, Òrìṣà, Òrì and our ancestors.

May the Àṣẹ of Òṣun bring sweetness and harmony into our lives.

May the wisdom of Ọ̀rúnmìlà guide our paths.

May the strength of Ògún empower our endeavours.

May the justice and courage of Ṣàngó prevail in our communities.

May Èṣù continue to open the right paths and preserve the balance between humanity and the spiritual forces that sustain existence.

And may the wisdom of our ancestors continue to remind us that we are custodians, not owners, of the heritage entrusted to us.

Let us celebrate with dignity.
Let us preserve with responsibility.
Let us teach with wisdom.
Let us coexist with respect.
Let us pass the torch of our heritage to generations yet unborn.
