90 NRCS VOLUNTEERS RECEIVE SAFER ACCESS TRAINING IN SOKOTO
Ninety volunteers of the Nigerian Red Cross Society, NRCS, Sokoto State Branch, have received training on the Safer Access Framework, SAF, with support from the International Committee of the Red Cross, ICRC.
The training, which took place from September 22nd to 29th, brought together volunteers from Sokoto North, Sokoto South and Wamakko Local Government Areas.
It was organized to enhance the volunteers’ knowledge and preparedness to safely carry out humanitarian activities, particularly in communities affected by sensitive or challenging situations.
The training focused on issues including personal and operational security, community acceptance, appropriate conduct, communication and responsible engagement with communities and other stakeholders.
The Safer Access Framework is designed to help National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies strengthen their ability to operate safely and effectively while responding to humanitarian needs in complex environments.
For the Nigerian Red Cross Society in Sokoto State, the training is considered important as volunteers frequently work with vulnerable populations and may face security challenges during field operations.
The programme also encouraged volunteers to uphold humanitarian principles, maintain public trust and take responsibility for their own safety and that of their colleagues while representing the Nigerian Red Cross Society.
The ICRC’s support forms part of its continued efforts to strengthen the capacity, preparedness and safety of humanitarian personnel and volunteers involved in humanitarian operations.
The Sokoto State Branch of the Nigerian Red Cross Society has expressed appreciation to the ICRC for its continued support and reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening the capacity of its volunteers to respond effectively to the needs of vulnerable communities.
