Today, we celebrate the courage and resilience of the people of Djibouti, a small but strategic nation at the Horn of Africa, who reclaimed their destiny after nearly a century under French colonial rule.
✊🏽 After years of political struggle, referendums, and protests, the people of Djibouti chose the path of freedom. On June 27, 1977, their flag was hoisted high, and the voice of a nation long silenced by colonialism rang out: “We are free!”
🎖️ The first president, Hassan Gouled Aptidon, became a symbol of unity and nation-building, guiding the young republic through its earliest years.
