Michael Owen on the eternal rivalry:
Cristiano Ronaldo wouldn't be able to compete with Lionel Messi without the support of Florentino Pérez, and we've all seen it."
Even when Ronaldo had the courage to ask for a pay rise to match Lionel Messi,
Florentino Pérez, without hesitation, "got rid of him because he felt his quality wasn't on Messi's level."

Look at him now without the Ballon d'Or, the Golden Boot. He's lost many individual awards since leaving Real Madrid.
His personal achievements have dried up.
The only award CR7 has won since joining Turin in 2018 is the Italian League Player of the Year.

Iñigo Martinéz on his decision to leave Barcelona: “I spoke with Hansi Flick at one of the plane’s emergency exits, while returning from the pre-season tour. We discussed the situation, and the coach was shocked. I told him I had an offer I couldn’t refuse.”

Iñigo: “It wasn’t easy; I had to make a decision very quickly. Then I thanked the club for making it easy for me to leave; not everyone does that.”

Iñigo: “It was very hard for me to say goodbye to the players, and I've only been here for two years, and with some, just one year.” 🥺

Iñigo: “Last year was the best of my career, but I knew it would be very difficult to stay another season.”

— Iñigo in an exclusive interview with Gerard Romero [Jijantes].

Every Premier League transfer on deadline day as Man Utd and Chelsea confirm deals

It was another hectic deadline day for Premier League clubs with Liverpool, Manchester United and Arsenal all opting to splash the clash in the closing hours of the window

The 2025 summer transfer window has finally come to a close and it was arguably the most expensive window ever. Premier League clubs have splashed millions on new signings, blowing their European counterparts out of the water.

Liverpool have been among the highest spenders in the world under Arne Slot - and that was no different on deadline day after teeing up a £160m double swoop for Alexander Isak and Marc Guehi from Newcastle and Crystal Palace respectively. Isak's move is still on track, but Guehi's switch has collapsed at the 11th hour.

Newcastle are also in the process of another signing. They raided one of their Premier League rivals to sign Isak’s replacement with Yoane Wissa on the verge of a move.

Across the North, Manchester United have also been busy. They appear to have solved their goalkeeping conundrum with a move for Royal Antwerp’s Semme Lammens. Goalkeepers were also on the agenda for rivals Manchester City, with Gianluigi Donnarumma potentially coming in, while Ederson looks to be on the verge of a move to Turkey.

Arsenal have also been busy, potentially making Bayer Leverkusen star Piero Hincapie their final recruit of the summer. With all of that being said, take a look at all of the done deals from across the Premier League on deadline day:
