Governor Bago Approves Permanent Appointment for 396 Health Workers

Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago has approved the permanent and pensionable absorption of 396 health workers engaged under the Niger State–GAVI–UNICEF Memorandum of Understanding into the Niger State Civil Service.

The workers were recruited to support Routine Immunization (RI) and Primary Health Care (PHC) programmes across the state. Their integration followed an executive memo seeking approval to address manpower shortages in public health facilities.

The Commissioner for Health, Dr. Murtala Muhammad Bagana, said the decision is aimed at strengthening skilled manpower and improving service delivery across Primary Health Care centres. He noted that adequate staffing remains critical to the effective functioning of health facilities.

Dr. Samuel Jiya of the Niger State Primary Health Care Development Agency stated that the personnel are deployed across various local government areas to boost immunization coverage and PHC services.

On behalf of the beneficiaries, Aminu Adam commended the state government and its partners for the approval.

EFCC Opposes Ngige’s Bid to Secure Bail

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Monday, December 15, 2025, opposed moves by a former Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige to secure bail after being arraigned before Justice M.A. Hassan of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, High Court, Gwarimpa Abuja.

Prosecution counsel, Sylvanus Tahir, SAN, told the court to approach the issue of bail for the former Minister with caution as he failed to return his international passport to the EFCC after being allowed to travel abroad on a medical trip. He undertook to return the passport but failed until he was arrested by the Commission.

“He made an undertaking that he will return the passport on November 19, 2025. The defendant could not obtain an affidavit of loss in the UK but rather chose to come back to Nigeria to obtain an affidavit, what stopped him from obtaining a relevant police report from London?”

“The logical thing to do was to depose an affidavit of loss in the country. What does Nigerian police know about a loss of passport in the UK? What we are saying my Lord is that the defendant is in gross breach of the administrative bail granted by the EFCC. Suddenly he is asking this court to grant him bail in terms and conditions granted by the EFCC. Let us not shoot ourselves in the leg. The defendant is in violation of Section 162 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act, 2015. He undermines and jeopardises the provision of ACJA. The totality of this case calls for extreme caution, we submit that the court should refuse the application and order for accelerated trial.”

The defendant counsel, Patrick Ikweato, SAN, has however asked the court to grant the defendant bail. “I am asking my lord to admit the defendant to bail, the appeals are there stated in the application, we rely on all the processes as well as the written application", he said.

Justice Hassan adjourned the matter to Thursday, 18 December, 2025 for ruling on the application.

Ngige was arraigned on an eight-count charge bordering on alleged contract fraud and accepting gifts to the tune of N2,261,722, 535.84( Two Billion, Two Hundred and Sixty One Million, Seven Hundred and Twenty Two Thousand, Five Hundred and Thirty Five Naira, Eighty Four Kobo).

IMMEDIATE FORMER SULEJA VICE CHAIRMAN APPOINTED AS COUNCIL SECRETARY WHILE CHIEF OF STAFF RETAINS ROLE.

Just weeks after the end of his term as Vice Chairman, Suleja LGC of the Isyaku Bawa Na'ibi's led administration, Hon. Garba D. Biba is now appointed as the Secretary of Suleja Local Government Council.

This is after ceding his position to a female candidate in line with Governor Umar Bago's push for the APC in Niger State's 25 Local government councils to give ladies the position of Vice Chairpersons. (What if all deputy governors' position goes to ladies too?) 🤔

Mr Abdulrahim Idris Salanke still retains his position of Chief of Staff for the second term of IBN's administration, which is not a bad choice. Still, we feel a better position at the state or federal level would have made more sense for the former Vice Chairman, who is a reputable real estate surveyor and valuer. Shouldn't people be rewarded with higher positions?

Nonetheless, we wish them success in their endeavours. We pray they succeed in making Suleja LGA a successful destination for commerce, education and tourism 🤲🏾🤲🏾🤲🏾

PUBLIC DISCLAIMER

The attention of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has been drawn to a circulating message soliciting financial support for an alleged “End of Year Whistle Blowing and Anti-Corruption Reports Submissions” scheduled to hold between 17th and 22nd December at the EFCC Headquarters, and purportedly signed by one Dandaura Takalis, PhD, claiming to represent a so-called Coalition of Civil Society and Human Rights Organisation.

The ICPC wishes to categorically state that it has no knowledge of this individual, his organisation, or the event being advertised.

At no time was the Commission contacted, consulted, or involved in any manner regarding the said programme.

The Commission therefore dissociates itself completely from the message and warns the general public to exercise utmost caution. Members of the public are strongly advised not to make any financial contributions or provide any form of support, as this announcement bears the clear markings of a scam.

The ICPC remains committed to transparent, accountable anti-corruption efforts and urges citizens to verify all information relating to the Commission through its official communication channels.

“I wear hijab because I like it! I believed strongly in my faith. I know hijabs are made for the Muslims Buh I have a personal choice to what I want to wear. Covering my hair doesn’t make me Muslim. Modesty is a personal choice, Muslim are not the only one who are supposed to dress modest. I wear hijab as sign of cultural appreciation, not that I want to be a Muslim. Embracing myself in Muslim outfit is a way that makes me feel more confident…” -

A young Christian lady has sparked reactions online after openly revealing the reason why she loves wearing Muslim-inspired outfits, especially the hijab.
