Several companions of the Prophet (Sahabah) Sallalahu Alayhi Wa Sallama were known for their humor and used to crack jokes. The most famous of them was Nu'ayman ibn Amr known as the "funniest of the Sahabah", Nu'ayman was a veteran of the Battle of Badr who frequently pulled practical jokes on the Prophet Muhammad Sallalahu Alayhi Wa Sallama and his fellow companions. In one famous incident, he bought food from a merchant, brought it to the Prophet as a gift, and then told the merchant to ask the Prophet for the money. The Prophet would smile, laugh, and pay the merchant.
Another companion, Abdullah (nicknamed Himaar, meaning donkey), was known for his humor and often made the Messenger of Allah laugh.
Additionally, the Ansar companion Usayd ibn Hudayr was known for his witty and jesting nature, to the point that the Prophet once gently poked him in the ribs for making people laugh.
The companions were known to engage in lighthearted humor like throwing melon rinds at one another. The Prophet Muhammad Sallalahu Alayhi Wa Sallama and the Sahabah permitted and enjoyed humor, as long as it was harmless, did not mock the religion, and was strictly truthful.
