UGEP ETANGALA POLO DON ENTER GOVERNMENT HOUSE....

BOB TEE PAYS COURTESY VISIT TO CROSS RIVER DEPUTY GOVERNOR

Popular Cross Riverian and philanthropist, Bob Tee (Dr. Thomas Ofem), on August 17 paid a courtesy visit to the Deputy Governor, Rt. Hon. Peter Odey, presenting him with an official Leboku International Festival T-Shirt.

The visit highlighted the importance of promoting Cross River’s rich cultural heritage and tourism, particularly the globally recognised Leboku Festival.

Bob Tee said, “Leboku is our heritage. Culture is our identity. Together, we can celebrate Cross River.”

The Deputy Governor appreciated the gesture and reaffirmed the State Government’s commitment to developing tourism. He also promised to attend this year’s Etangala Festival.

Culture. Heritage. Tourism. Cross River! 🇳🇬

Leboku - The Sophistication of Our Progenitors on Display

By Okoi Obono-obla

Leboku is dance, celebration, thanksgiving and drama all rolled into one. Kudos to the sophistication and ingenuity of our progenitors.

Surprisingly, the colonialists who came solely to exploit and extract African resources - to bail out the saturated markets of Europe, create new ones, and innovate in accordance with the principles of competition - lied that Africa had no history and civilization, when it was even the cradle of civilization. This is an illogical proposition, taking into account that Africa is the cradle of the human race and that in ancient times scholars came from Greece to study medicine, pharmacy, science and astronomy in ancient Egypt, which itself was an authentic African civilization, along with the Cush*tic and Ethiopian regions from which the Yakurr trace their genealogy.

The intricately woven, well-planned ritualistic ceremonies, prayers and invocation of ancestral spirits and other elaborate events embedded in the Leboku festival of Ugep, Yakurr, Cross River State of Nigeria, is nothing but an octopus of celebration and is a pointer to a sophisticated culture which is second to none.

In conclusion, Leboku is more than a festival; it is a living archive of Yakurr history, spirituality and worldview. It affirms our identity, honors our ancestors, and reminds the world that African civilization did not begin with colonial contact. We must continue to preserve and celebrate it.

A King Worth Praying For 👑

The Obol Lopon of Ugep is a King every community should pray to have—a leader who genuinely loves his people and remains committed to the progress and prosperity of his land.

A good King is not measured only by the crown he wears, but by the lives he touches, the peace he promotes, and the good things he works to bring to his people.

May the Obol Lopon continue to reign with wisdom, strength, and compassion, and may Ugep continue to experience development, unity, peace, and prosperity under his leadership.

Long live the Obol Lopon of Ugep! 👑
Long live Ugep!
Long live Yakurr

URGENT APPEAL FOR SUPPORT

A son of Ugep needs our help.

Mr. Eyong Eteng, a physically challenged man from Ijiman, Ugep, Yakurr Local Government Area, is currently appealing for financial support following a difficult time for his family.

His wife recently went into labour and had to undergo surgery. Thankfully, by the grace of God, both mother and child are doing well.

However, the family is currently facing financial difficulties and needs support to settle the hospital bills and other related expenses.

I humbly appeal to individuals, families, friends, and well-meaning members of the community to support this family. No amount is too small. Together, we can show humanity and stand with them during this challenging period.

May God Almighty bless and replenish everyone who supports this family.

As we all anticipate the Digital Launching of the Discover Ugep project tomorrow, Tuesday, the 18th day of August 2026, we are thrilled to release another amazing plan we have kept away for this final moment.

Did you ever think we would tell Ugep’s history without bringing the other Yakurr communities along or getting them involved?

Never.

From the beginning, we understood that the story of Ugep is connected to a much bigger story, the story of the Yakurr people.

While Discover Ugep began with a focus on documenting Ugep, we have always had the wider Yakurr heritage in mind. We simply chose to reveal the vision one step at a time.

Now, we are ready to unveil another part of that vision.

As we move into the next phase, Discover Ugep will embark on a tour across the different Yakurr communities, meeting their people, listening to their stories and carrying out firsthand research into their history, traditions, culture, important places, personalities and heritage.

Because we believe no one can tell a community’s story better than the people who know it, live it and carry it.

But we don't want to do this alone.

We are creating an opportunity for two passionate volunteer researchers from each Yakurr community to become part of this journey.

We are looking for people who:

Know and value the history of their community.

Are passionate about preserving our heritage.

Believe in the growth, peace and unity of Yakurr.

Are willing to research, learn, document and share authentic stories.

Applications will open after the official launch and will be submitted through the Discover Ugep website.

This is bigger than documenting history.

It is about giving every community a voice, preserving the memories of our people and creating a platform where our shared heritage can bring us closer together.

When we understand each other’s stories, we understand each other better.

And if you think this is all we have been working on...

There is still so much more to unload.

The journey is only beginning.

Discover. Document. Preserve. Unite.
