K+lling repentant Insurgents and secessionists is against religious and international law if you don’t fear Allah — Sheikh Gumi Warns

Islamic cleric Sheikh Ahmad Gumi has condemned calls for the k+lling of repentant insurgents and secessionists, insisting that such actions violate both religious teachings and international law.

Gumi made the remarks in a Facebook post on Friday, days after the Senate urged the Federal Government to end the rehabilitation of repentant t+rrorists and instead prosecute anyone found guilty of t+rrorism and other related offences.

The cleric argued that executing repentant insurgents, secessionists or prisoners of war is morally wrong and contrary to both Islamic principles and international legal standards. He also cautioned that the International Criminal Court (ICC) is monitoring such actions, urging those involved to consider both legal and spiritual consequences.

According to Gumi, adopting the same methods as t+rrorist groups by k+lling perceived enemies only erodes morality and does not help in winning the fight against insecurity. He stressed that emotions should never determine decisions in conflict situations.

He said, “k+lling repentant Insurgents and secessionists is against religious and international law. So also prisoners of war. ICC is listening if you don’t fear Allah. Where is morality? It’s the same logic t+rrorists employ to k+ll all others besides them. Emotions don’t win a war.”

The Senate had, during Tuesday’s plenary, resolved that individuals found culpable of t+rrorism and other organised criminal offences should face immediate prosecution rather than rehabilitation. Lawmakers argued that justice must be seen to be done to restore public confidence in Nigeria’s criminal justice system.

The resolution formed part of broader measures adopted by the Senate to address the country’s worsening security challenges.

May Edochie files N1.5bn lawsuit against Yinka Theisen, her former lawyer and others over alleged defamation and release of private information online ‎

May Yul-Edochie, the estranged wife of actor, Yul Edochie, has dragged the ex-girlfriend of Linc Edochie, Yinka Omolola Theisen, her former lawyer Emeka Ugwuonye, and other unidentified social media users before the Lagos State High Court over alleged cyberbullying, defamation, and online harassment.

According to the court filing, May has asked the court to order the removal of the social media accounts and posts she claims were used to target her person and malign her character. She prayed the court to grant an order compelling social media platforms to release user information to assist with investigations.

In a 126-paragraph affidavit filed in support of the suit, May alleged that she had been subjected to sustained online attacks over several years by the defendants and operators of multiple blogs and pages.

She alleged that the publications contained false accusations, manipulated photographs, insulting caricatures, AI-generated images, de@th wishes and other materials intended to ridicule her and damage her reputation.

She further alleged that despite serving legal notices on some of the defendants in 2025 demanding the removal of the publications, the alleged attacks against her person have continued, and new social media pages have been created to continue the attacks on her.

The claimant also accused one of the defendants, whom she identified as her former lawyer, of disclosing confidential information she had released to him during the course of legal representation and publishing materials she described as defamatory and misleading.

‎‎May is seeking ₦1 billion in damages from Ugwuonye, ₦500 million from Theisen, and court orders directing social media platforms to identify and disclose information about anonymous account operators behind the alleged campaign.

‎Justice Abdul-Raheem Tejumade Muyideen has directed that court processes be served across all known contact channels for the defendants. The matter has been adjourned for a service report.
