Nobody warned me that marriage changes the way people argue.
When we got married, I thought love meant talking things out.
Explaining feelings.
Clearing misunderstandings.
But in my marriage, arguments now end before they start.
I complain.
He listens.
I raise my voice.
He lowers his.
I ask, “Are you not angry?”
He says, “I just want peace.”
At first, I admired it.
Now I’m not sure.
Because peace without communication feels like distance.
And silence without explanation feels like rejection.
Some days I feel like I’m married to a very responsible stranger.
He pays bills.
He shows up.
He doesn’t cheat.
But emotionally?
He has already finished the conversation before it begins.
Maybe this is what people call maturity.
Or maybe it’s what happens when someone realizes
that explaining themselves never changes anything.
