A former Catholic priest has been sentenced to 11 years in prison for 15 counts of indecent assault on two males and three females, most of whom were under the age of 16 at the time of the offences.

In July, Dennis Finbow, 77, who is already serving a prison sentence for abusing a girl while working in Peterborough, admitted to further child abuse offences between 1975 and 1992.

At Cambridge Crown Court on Friday, Judge Philip Grey commended the victims for their courage in coming forward.

Sentencing Finbow, formerly of Martlesham, near Ipswich, the judge said: "You were a manipulative and predatory pa******le who made use of a climate of excessive trust and deference."

Finbow was jailed for six and a half years in March 2023 for touching a girl while she was in bed in the 1980s.

The court was then told that when he was voluntarily interviewed, he described the allegations "as nonsense and a fabrication".

In an impact statement read to the court, the victim said Finbow was a cigar-smoking "larger-than-life" character who had a "secret life" as a pa******le.

The Diocese of East Anglia said Finbow, who had also served in St Neots in Cambridgeshire, had retired and not been in active ministry since 2001.

He has since been stripped of his clerical status.

Bishop Peter Collins said: "I wish to reiterate our willingness to listen to and support anyone affected by abuse and all victims of child s*xual abuse are in my prayers.

"We would encourage any victim of child s*xual abuse perpetrated within the Catholic Church context to make contact either directly through our safeguarding office or with Safe Spaces, our victim support service.

"Today's sentencing confirms the validity of previous convictions and of the decision to remove Dennis Finbow from clerical office."

A 16th count of indecent assault was left to lie on file.

According to a report by The Mirror on Saturday, Oct. 11, 2025, two brothers in the United Kingdom have been handed long prison sentences after being found guilty of serious offences against a 12-year-old girl, one of whom fathered her child despite being aware of his HIV-positive status.

Patrick Leonard, 23, and his brother, Lannee Ksigwa, 19, were convicted by a jury at Bradford Crown Court. The judge described their behaviour as “deeply irresponsible” and “exploitative,” saying they manipulated a vulnerable child for their own benefit.

The young survivor whose identity is legally protected shared a recorded statement with the court, describing the emotional harm she suffered and the lasting impact of the abuse.

Prosecutors told the court that Leonard’s actions were especially reckless because he knew about his medical condition yet failed to consider the risk to others. Medical examinations later confirmed that the survivor did not contract HIV. DNA testing also confirmed that Leonard was the biological father of the child.

During sentencing, Judge Andrew Hatton said Leonard’s conduct showed a “serious breach of trust” and highlighted his pattern of coercive and controlling behaviour. He added that both brothers had taken advantage of a child who should have been protected.

Leonard admitted to two offences before the trial and was later convicted of additional counts. Ksigwa was found guilty of two similar offences. Leonard was sentenced to 24 years in prison, with an additional year on licence, while Ksigwa received 12 years in a young offenders’ institution. Both must serve at least two-thirds of their sentences before being eligible for release and will remain on the s*x offenders’ register for life.

Detective Inspector Simon Howroyd of the Bradford District Child Safeguarding Unit commended the survivor’s bravery and determination in coming forward. “These individuals are dangerous and have caused severe harm. The survivor’s courage in reporting the abuse has ensured that justice has been served,” he said.

11/10/2025

President Bola Tinubu has granted a pardon to Maryam Sanda, the woman sentenced to death in 2020 for the culpable homicide of her husband, Bilyaminu Bello.

Sanda, who was convicted of stabbing Bello—the son of a former National Chairman of the PDP, Mr. Haliru Bello—served six years and eight months at the Suleja Medium Security Custodial Centre before her release.

Background of the Conviction
In a high-profile case that spanned nearly three years, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court, presided over by Justice Yusuf Halilu, sentenced Maryam Sanda to death by hanging in January 2020.

The Crime: Sanda was charged by police with culpable homicide for the premeditated killing of her husband in November 2017, allegedly by stabbing him with broken bottles.
Courtroom Drama: Upon conviction, Sanda broke down in uncontrollable tears, creating a sad atmosphere in the Abuja courtroom before she was whisked away by officials of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCS).
Reasons for the Pardon
The decision to grant the pardon was made following an earnest request from Sanda’s family and was reportedly based on several mitigating factors:

Benefit to Children: The primary appeal was the assertion that her release would greatly benefit her two minor children.
Rehabilitation: The appeal cited Sanda’s exemplary behavior while incarcerated, her expressed remorse for the crime, and her demonstrated adoption of a new way of living during her time at the custodial centre.
President Tinubu’s pardon spares Sanda the death penalty upheld by the court, allowing her immediate release from detention.

I can't believe they released that Maryam Sanda girl so soon, I can only imagine how the husband's family will feel about this. Just a few years for recklessly taking a whole life. https://t.co/V42oX6qp8R

The Presidential Pardon of Maryam Sanda will never sit right with me. Wani hukuncin sai a lahira.

— Tha Watcher () October 11, 2025
Y’all remember Maryam Sanda, the wife of Bilyaminu Bello who killed her hisband has been pardoned. You know when someone gets presidential pardon, the crime is extinguished as if not committed at all.

Lesson: Do not let anyone kill you.

So Maryam Sanda got pardoned too?

Where's justice!

— Jamilu A. Haruna ?? () October 11, 2025

Yup! Maryam Sanda has been fully pardoned by President Tinubu. She is no longer going to get the death sentence nor serve a further jail term for the murder of her husband Bilyaminu. The end of a saga I guess. https://t.co/1T4Wh6vagH pic.twitter.com/8yynjTVc4y

Maryam Sanda will forever remain a prisoner of her own conscience.

She has a child who'll always remind her of her atrocity, and that on its own, is worse than imprisonment.

10/10/2025

According to insider accounts, the disagreement has become so severe that Wike boycotted the Council of State meeting in protest, sending the Minister of State for the FCT in his place.

The appointment of Joash Amupitan as Nigeria’s new INEC Chairman has deepened the growing rift between the Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike, and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, further exposing the fragile alliance at the heart of the administration.

According to insider accounts, the disagreement has become so severe that Wike boycotted the Council of State meeting in protest, sending the Minister of State for the FCT in his place.

He is also believed to have reached out to several former Nigerian Heads of State, urging them to stay away from the meeting, a move that widened the cracks already visible within Tinubu’s inner circle.

Wike’s political decline began shortly after human rights activist Omoyele Sowore publicly exposed his undeclared real estate holdings in Florida, USA.

These revelations sent shockwaves through his family and political network. Before the exposé, Wike had just returned from a medical trip to the UK, where he reportedly received treatment for a heart infection.

Energized and combative, he resumed his long-standing feud with Governor Sim Fubara, his political protégé-turned-adversary, after orchestrating efforts that removed him from office for 6 months.

However, Wike’s renewed confidence soon crumbled. During one of his public tirades, he threatened Sowore for calling President Tinubu “a criminal,” a remark Sowore made on social media in response to Tinubu’s infamous statement in Brazil that there was “no corruption in Nigeria.”

Wike’s arrogant claim that Sowore was “lucky Tinubu believes in the rule of law” and would one day encounter someone who did not only inflamed the activist’s resolve.

The confrontation prompted Sowore to release damning evidence of Wike’s corruptly acquired foreign and hidden local assets, igniting widespread outrage and drawing the attention of the Presidency itself.

In the aftermath, Tinubu’s trusted advisers began to reassess Wike’s role in government, concluding that he had become too erratic and politically toxic to be trusted with sensitive national matters.

Wike had reportedly pushed hard for Justice Abdullahi Muhammad Liman, a justice of the Court of Appeal, to be appointed as INEC Chairman.

He secured clearances for him through several security agencies, confident that Tinubu would approve.

But following mounting skepticism within the Presidency, Liman’s candidacy was quietly dropped. SaharaReporters learnt that Liman and Wike are so close that he once blocked security agencies from searching his house in 2016.

Tinubu instead appointed Joash Amupitan, a lawyer and legal scholar from the University of Jos. Tinubu is said to have told close aides that Wike was “too unstable and untrustworthy” to influence the leadership of Nigeria’s electoral body.

The breakdown of trust soon extended to media control and censorship. After Governor Fubara’s reinstatement, Tinubu reportedly ordered Wike to suspend his monthly media briefings, arguing that his combative tone was damaging the administration’s image.

Furious, Wike appealed to Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila, warning that silencing him would only “make Sowore too powerful.”

The exchange reflected the degree to which Sowore’s exposés had undermined Wike’s standing within the Presidency.

Amid the turmoil, Wike allegedly approached the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) to amend his asset declaration, seeking to include the properties exposed in Florida and elsewhere.

But officials reportedly told him that the original documents had been forwarded to the EFCC, leaving him politically vulnerable and deeply unsettled and betrayed.

His growing frustration culminated in Thursday’s Council of State meeting, where most former Heads of State conspicuously boycotted the session.

Presidency insiders suggest Wike played a role in orchestrating the boycott to demonstrate his displeasure with the appointment of Amupitan.

According to sources, the meeting’s agenda initially made no mention of an INEC appointment, but Tinubu allegedly sprung a surprise by asking the Governor of Kogi State, Ahmed Ododo, to present Amupitan for confirmation.

Caught off guard, attendees had no choice but to endorse the appointment.

The unfolding drama marks a new phase in the uneasy relationship between Tinubu and Wike. What began as a strategic alliance built on mutual political convenience has now morphed into a cold war of influence, suspicion, and retribution.

09/10/2025

A major property dispute has broken out in Lekki Phase 1, Lagos, involving billionaire businessman Chief Razaq Okoya, his wife Chief (Mrs.) Shade Okoya, and former senator Domingo Obende.

The fight is over a block of sixteen (16) three-bedroom flats located at Plot 96, Ladipo Omotosho Cole Street. The property is currently the subject of a court case — Suit No: LD/5226GCM/2021 — between Senator Domingo’s company, Dajo Oil Nigeria Limited, and the Okoyas’ company, RAO Investment Property Company Ltd.

Tenants renting the building for commercial use say they are being harassed and intimidated by thugs allegedly sent by the Okoyas.

In a video seen by reporters, a group of men — described as “Lagos thugs” — were captured threatening tenants and a lawyer on the property, claiming they were sent by Mrs. Shade Okoya.

Despite complaints to the media in the past, tenants say the harassment has continued.

> “They boast that they own Nigeria and keep sending thugs and police to disturb us,” one tenant representative said.
“We rented this place legally, but now we’re stuck in the middle of their fight. Instead of settling their matter with the Senator, they’re making life hard for us.”

Documents from Oludare Adaramewa & Co., lawyers for Senator Domingo and Dajo Oil, explain how the problem started.

According to the letter, Mrs. Shade Okoya (also known as Mrs. Memunat Ajoke Olubando) collected an advance payment of $250,000 (about ₦400 million) from Senator Domingo’s company on behalf of RAO Investment Property Company Ltd. and Eleganza Ball Pen Industries Ltd.

The payment was meant to be a loan backed by the Lekki property as security. The property’s original Certificate of Occupancy (C of O) was handed over as proof of the agreement.

However, the letter says that despite several meetings and discussions, the Okoyas have not refunded the money or transferred ownership of the property as agreed.

Because of this, Senator Domingo’s company has gone to court, asking the court to take over and sell the property to recover the money owed.

The lawyer also confirmed that the original C of O is still in their possession, meaning Senator Domingo’s company still has a legal claim on the property.

Chief Razaq Okoya is the billionaire founder of the Eleganza Group, one of Nigeria’s oldest manufacturing companies.

This disagreement has now created serious tension — with the Okoya family and Senator Domingo battling over ownership, while innocent tenants suffer the effects of the legal war.

Cameroon’s Paul Biya, already the world’s oldest head of state, is the favourite to win Sunday’s presidential election, handing him an eighth term in power in the central African country.

A fractured opposition of 11 candidates is standing against the 92-year-old in the vote, whose credibility and fairness rights groups have called into question.

Most of the 7.8 million Cameroonians called to the ballot box can remember no leader other than Biya, who has held onto power with an iron fist since 1982.

Questions over the state of his health have only grown louder since he entered his 10th decade. Should Biya win, he would be nearly 100 by the end of his eighth term.

Though the opposition hopes to entice voters with promises of a new face and an end to the cost-of-living frustrations of the long Biya epoch, its most credible candidate, Maurice Kamto, had his candidacy barred by the courts.

Theophile, an artist in the economic capital Douala, branded the vote a “scam”.

The 24-year-old had hoped to vote for Kamto, who came second to Biya in the 2018 election.

“As long as the system remains in place, there is nothing that can be done. There has to be a change,” he told AFP.

Others value the veteran’s decades of experience in a country where half the population is under the age of 20.

“I say Paul Biya still has something to offer,” said Giovanni, a 20-year-old student in Douala.

“Even though some of his promises haven’t been kept, I’m counting on him. He’s a wise man with a wealth of experience and a long track record.”

– ‘Determination intact’ –

The longtime president was noticeably absent from the campaign trail.

He had taken a trip this month to Switzerland, his favoured destination for overseas jaunts, fuelling fresh speculation over the state of his health.

But he made a rare outing on Tuesday, holding a rally at a stadium in the town of Maroua in the Far North region, a key electoral battleground with 1.2 million registered voters.

It was his first public appearance since May.

“My determination to serve you remains intact,” he told the crowd in a 25-minute speech, which touched on youth, women and infrastructure.

Though his entourage expected nearly 25,000 people at the event, AFP reporters present estimated only a few hundred showed up.

Biya became Cameroon’s second president since independence in the 1960s in the 1984 election, when he ran unopposed and won 100 per cent of the vote.

He had already taken over two years earlier when his predecessor Ahmadou Ahidjo resigned suddenly.

He was re-elected in similar style in 1988 but after the introduction of multi-party politics only narrowly overcame challenger John Fru Ndi in 1992 by a four-per cent margin.

Biya turned to a mix of repression, regional alliances and overtures to his former rivals to curtail threats to his rule, Arrey Ntui, the International Crisis Group’s senior analyst for Cameroon, said.

His strategy bore fruit: he was re-elected with 93 per cent of the vote in 1997, 71 per cent in 2004, 78 per cent in 2011 and 71 per cent in 2018.

– ‘Protect the vote’ –

Human rights groups have spent years condemning Biya’s stranglehold on Cameroon’s institutions and election process.

“The electoral charade is unlikely to signal any potential change in the immediate future but rather the consolidation of the status quo,” said David Kiwuwa, who heads the School of International Studies at Nottingham University’s campus in China.

With four-in-10 Cameroonians living under the poverty line in 2024, according to the World Bank, economic fears have long loomed large in voters’ minds.

The high cost of living, as well as the lack of drinking water, quality schooling and healthcare, have long frustrated Cameroonians.

“I keep hoping for a better Cameroon where young people can find work,” Boris, a computer engineer in the coastal city of Buea, told AFP.

“I imagine a day when Cameroon looks like Paris, with accessible and affordable education, where we can drive safely on our roads.”

Yet those recurring complaints, widely shared on social media, have not led people to take to the streets in protest.

Several citizens’ associations have set up networks of observers at polling stations to “protect the vote” by counting ballots independently.

The government has slammed these as attempts to “manipulate public opinion” and “produce skewed results”.

The vote will be held in the shadow of a deadly conflict between separatist forces in Cameroon’s English-speaking regions and the government.

During the last vote in 2018, turnout was particularly low in anglophone Cameroon, where the fighting is fiercest.

09/10/2025

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission has secured a 24-year jail term for Mr Garuba Duku, a retired Director of Finance and Administration with the Abuja Metropolitan Management Council under the Federal Capital Territory Administration, over a ₦318 million fraud.

This is according to a statement made available to newsmen by the Director of Public Enlightenment and Education of the commission, Mr Demola Bakare, on Thursday.

The ICPC is one of Nigeria’s principal anti-corruption agencies, established in 2000. Its mandate includes investigating and prosecuting cases of corruption and public financial mismanagement under laws such as the ICPC Act and the Money Laundering (Prevention and Prohibition) Act.

The statement said the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja and presided over by Justice James Omotosho found Duku guilty on a six-count charge bordering on corruption and money laundering, brought against him by the ICPC in suit number FHC/ABJ/CR/608/2022.

“According to ICPC investigations, between 2012 and 2013, Duku fraudulently diverted ₦318,250,000 belonging to AMMC into his personal account with Fidelity Bank Plc.

“The court heard that the funds were received in several instalments — ₦56.25 million, ₦71 million, ₦53 million, ₦54 million, ₦46 million, and ₦36.3 million — and later transferred to Bureau de Change operators for unauthorized purposes.

“ICPC prosecutors told the court that the transactions violated government financial regulations and that Duku’s actions were “a clear abuse of public trust”, the statement partly read.

The statement further said that during the trial, Duku had claimed that the funds were handed over to his superiors, but the court dismissed the claim for lack of evidence.

In his ruling, Omotosho held that “The prosecution proved its case beyond a reasonable doubt”, adding that the evidence presented by the ICPC “was credible, consistent, and sufficient to establish the offences charged.”

“Consequently, the judge sentenced Duku to four years’ imprisonment on each of the six counts or an option of fine equivalent to five times the amount involved in each count — amounting to about ₦1.6 billion. The sentences are to run concurrently,”, it added.

Reacting to the judgment, Bakare, described the conviction as a major victory in the commission’s fight against corruption.

“This judgment underscores ICPC’s unwavering commitment to ensuring that public officers who betray the trust reposed in them are brought to justice,” Bakare said.

“No one entrusted with public funds is above the law, and this conviction sends a strong message that corruption will not go unpunished.”

Bakare added that the commission would continue to pursue all cases of graft with diligence and professionalism to safeguard public resources.

PUNCH Online reports that in May 2024, the ICPC secured the conviction of a Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps Commandant, Christopher Oluchukwu, for defrauding individuals seeking employment for their children.

Similarly, in May 2019, a former nominee to the ICPC board, Dr Saad Alanamu, and Salman Sulaiman were sentenced to 24 years in jail for collecting and giving bribes.

Alanamu was also a former Chairman of the Governing Council of Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin, and Sulaiman is the Chief Executive Director of Namylas Nig. Ltd.

09/10/2025

I’ve spent over ₦2 million fighting to get my daughter back… I’m now financially finished,” the heartbroken father cries out, calling on Abians, activists, and Nigerians to intervene before tragedy strikes.

A heart-wrenching cry for help has emerged from Umuahia, Abia State, as Engr. Ogbenna Chukwuka, a native of Olokoro in Umuahia South Local Government Area, pleads with Nigerians to come to his rescue over the alleged abduction of his 8-year-old daughter by his estranged wife and her new husband, who he claims is a pastor with the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG).

In a pain-soaked video obtained by All Facts Newspaper, Engr. Chukwuka narrated how his once-peaceful marriage to Mrs Prisca Nwanyieze Ndulaka turned into years of heartbreak, betrayal, and endless court battles. The marriage, solemnised on December 25, 2010, produced two daughters before it collapsed.

According to him, his wife left their home when their first child was just seven months old, only to resurface five years later and again disappear barely a year after, while pregnant.

“She later divorced me with the help of her mother, Mrs Victoria Ndulaka. I went to court to make it official,” he said in tears.

Chukwuka revealed that in April 2025, his ex-wife remarried a pastor from RCCG in Anambra State. Before that, both families had agreed in the presence of HRH Eze Linus Onuoha, the traditional ruler of Itu Olokoro that he would take custody of their daughter, Blessing Ogbenna.

However, his ex-wife allegedly scaled a fence into his father’s compound with her new husband and mother to abduct Blessing in defiance of the agreement.

“They came through the block fence and forcefully took my daughter. Since then, I’ve not set my eyes on her,” he lamented.

The devastated father disclosed that he had reported the case to the Central Police Station, Umuahia, but it was never treated. Out of desperation, he petitioned the State CID, spending over ₦2 million in pursuit of justice yet nothing was done.

Now, he says, he is financially and emotionally broken.

“I have lost everything fighting to get my daughter back. I can’t sleep, I can’t eat. I beg the Abia State Government under Dr Alex Otti, the Attorney General of Abia State, the Chief Judge of Abia, and the Commissioner of Police to intervene before this matter destroys me completely.”

Engr. Chukwuka also made a passionate appeal to RCCG’s General Overseer, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, to investigate the alleged involvement of one of his pastors in the abduction, saying his only desire is to reunite with his daughter, not to destroy anyone’s name.

He further alleged that some church officials, had identified the pastor involved but refused to disclose his identity.

Now, the broken father is calling on Olokoro people, social media influencers, activists, and Nigerians of goodwill to help him get justice and bring his daughter back home.

“Please, I beg Nigerians to help me find my daughter. I am dying slowly,” he cried.

As of the time of filing this report, neither the RCCG leadership nor Pastor Adeboye had made any public comment regarding the allegation.
