Six schoolchildren, their driver, and two other victims abducted by suspected b@ndits in Kaduna State have finally regained their freedom after spending 36 harrowing days in captivity. In a related development, 11 other abductees, including women and children, were also released after more than 50 days in the hands of their captors.
The schoolchildren were k!dn@ppโฌd on April 26, 2026, when heavily armed bandits att@cked a vehicle transporting pupils from Akwando village to Kachia Local Government Area of Kaduna State. Nine passengers were abducted during the ambush, while a young girl was reportedly killed in the att@ck.
According to community leaders, the victims regained their freedom and returned home after trekking for nearly six hours through dense bush paths. Their release has brought relief and joy to families and residents who spent weeks praying and hoping for their safe return.
However, the ordeal has left deep scars. Reports indicate that the children missed almost an entire academic term during their captivity and may require emotional and psychological support to recover from the traumatic experience.
The second group of 11 victims was abducted during a separate att@ck on Gadanaji community in Kachia LGA, where armed men reportedly stormed the area in the dโฌad of night, firing sporadically and forcing residents to flee before taking several people away. They spent more than 50 days in captivity before their release.
While families celebrate the return of their loved ones, concerns remain over the continued wave of k!dn@pp!ngs in parts of Kaduna State, with several other victims from nearby communities still awaiting freedom.
