When a person dies, the highest thing that happens to the flesh is that it decays—returning to dust and sand. But the spirit continues to live on.
Let me be clear: what you're reading now is based on religious belief, not psychology. According to the Bible, we are told not to fear the one who can only kill the body, but to fear the One—God—who can destroy both body and soul (Matthew 10:28). That means anything can take the life of the flesh—poison, accidents, evil forces like ndị mụọ ọjọ na ndị mmadụ ọjọ both your village wicked uncle—but only God Almighty has the power to end both the physical and spiritual existence.
Now think about this: if your flesh will eventually rot and return to dust, but your spirit continues to live and face judgment—why allow your flesh to influence your spirit negatively?
When we let the flesh dominate, we are doing a great injustice to our spirit. The flesh perishes, yet the spirit is left to suffer the consequences.
Here are some ways the flesh negatively influences the spirit:Lust, Pride, Greed, Jealousy, Anger, Laziness, Addiction, Unforgiveness, envy etc.
The Bible tells us in Galatians 5:17 that there is a constant battle between the flesh and the spirit—they are always in opposition.
So what can we do?
Let the spirit win. Feed your spirit with: Love, Forgiveness, Kindness, Peace, Joy, Faithfulness, Self-control etc
Choose what lasts forever. Let your spirit win the battle.
