Ogun State Engages 448 Teaching Interns to Boost Rural Primary Schools
ABEOKUTA — In a move to tackle teacher shortages in rural areas, the Ogun State Government has formally engaged and posted 448 education interns under its OgunTeach initiative.
The Ogun State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) presented the engagement and posting letters to the successful candidates at its secretariat in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, on Wednesday.
SUBEB Chairman, Evangelist Olalekan Ifede, underscored that the postings are specifically targeted at filling vacancies in rural public primary schools. He urged the new interns to accept their placements without seeking transfers, warning that any attempt to change postings could lead to immediate disqualification.
“There are many people seeking this opportunity,” Ifede stated. “You should appreciate Governor Dapo Abiodun for making it possible.”
The Chairman directed the interns to resume duty immediately, noting that delayed resumption or late submission of assumption-of-duty documents would result in replacement and postpone salary processing.
“Payment is based on those who submit their assumption of duty early, so that processing can commence,” he clarified.
Ifede further advised the interns to view their roles as a call to service, not an entitlement, and to work cooperatively with school heads and colleagues. He emphasized that commitment and effectiveness in improving pupils' literacy and communication skills would influence prospects for permanent appointment.
Earlier, the Director of Administration and Supplies, Mr. Femi Fatade, confirmed that the selection was merit-based and that postings were aligned with the specific staffing needs of rural schools across the state.
Speaking on behalf of the interns, Mr. Adedayo Taiwo thanked the state government for the opportunity and pledged diligent service in line with the state’s educational objectives.
