Troops Neutralise Bandit, Recover AK-47 in Kwara Operation

Troops of the 22 Armoured Brigade have recorded a major success in their ongoing operations against banditry in Kwara State.

Acting on credible intelligence, the troops deployed at Forward Operating Base Patigi staged an ambush along the Lema–Daban Lema road in Edu Local Government Area in the early hours of Wednesday, September 3, 2025. The operation forced the bandits to flee into a nearby forest after coming under heavy firepower.

During a follow-up operation, the soldiers neutralised one bandit and recovered an AK-47 rifle, a magazine loaded with 30 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, and a motorcycle used by the criminals. The remains of the neutralised bandit were handed over to the appropriate authorities for further investigation aimed at tracking down other members of the criminal gang.

Commending the troops for their resilience, the Commander of the 22 Armoured Brigade, Brigadier General Ezra Barkins, praised their vigilance and urged them to sustain the momentum. He reaffirmed the Brigade’s determination to rid Kwara and its environs of criminal elements and ensure the safety of law-abiding citizens.

The Army noted that the operation also aligns with the Federal Government’s drive to create a safe environment for a successful farming season as part of efforts to strengthen food security across the country.

Akoshile Mukhtar Declares Interest in NYCN Presidency, Urges Youth-Focused Leadership

Abuja – Ambassador Comrade Akoshile Mukhtar, Vice President (North Central) of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), has declared his intention to contest for the position of National President of the Council.
Speaking at a press briefing attended by youth leaders, stakeholders, and members of the media, Mukhtar described his aspiration as a response to what he termed “the urgency of now” in repositioning the Council to better serve Nigerian youths.
He noted that since its establishment in 1964 and legal recognition in 1990, the NYCN has remained the umbrella body for youth development in Nigeria. However, he stressed that the Council must be repurposed and revitalised to effectively address the evolving challenges facing young people.
“The innovative power of young people remains the driving force behind the greatness of our country. Nigerian youths have made undeniable global impacts in technology, entrepreneurship, the digital economy, entertainment, and social change. It is time to match this potential with purposeful leadership,” Mukhtar stated.
Presenting himself as “the face of change,” Mukhtar said his leadership would focus on empowering youths, promoting accountability, and uniting diverse youth groups across the country.
He outlined his vision as “empowering Nigerian youths to actively participate in national development and shape the country’s future.” His mission, he explained, is “to provide effective leadership by offering Nigerian youths access to opportunities that ignite their potential, optimise their energy, and drive positive change in Nigeria.”
Mukhtar also highlighted his leadership values, which he captured under the acronym YOUTHS – Youthful, Opportunity, Unity, Transparency, Honesty, and Service.
Concluding his declaration, Mukhtar pledged to bring distinction into youth leadership, influence policy direction, and revive hope among Nigerian youths if elected as the next NYCN National President.
