HOW TO OPEN YOUR SPEECH

I was reading something to a group of children, and their response was incredible.

Listen to this opening: "The World Health Organisation reported that 12 million people died last year due to an accident."

Guess what? Everyone screamed and leaned in, eager to hear what I would say next.

So, who wants to die?

This is known as an attention-grabbing introduction.

You can use various techniques to capture your audience's attention:
- Present statistics
- a popular quote or a quote from a well-known author
- Tell a very brief story
- Ask a thought-provoking question
- Use silence effectively

These methods can help engage your audience right from the start!

Dear Royalty, just as singers dedicate time and effort to caring for their voices, you are also expected to take the same care with your voice. Your voice is your most important instrument, and it deserves proper attention and maintenance.

In between, neither overuse your voice nor underuse it. That is, your voice shouldn't be too low or too loud.

IS IT OKAY TO TAP THE MICROPHONE?
NO, IT ISN'T.

YOU SHOULDN’T TAP THE MICROPHONE BECAUSE IT CAN CAUSE SEVERAL PROBLEMS. HERE'S WHY:

It Can Damage the Microphone

Microphones are sensitive electronic devices. Tapping them hard can ruin their internal components such as the diaphragm.

It Produces Loud, Harsh Noise

The sound of tapping is very loud through the speakers and can shock or irritate your audience and the sound technicians.

It Distracts the Audience

Instead of starting smoothly, tapping creates a jarring moment that can break attention or reverence, especially during worship or a sermon.

It’s Unprofessional

Tapping the mic can make you appear unprepared or untrained in public speaking or church communication.

WHAT TO DO INSTEAD:

Do a sound check before the service.

Speak gently into the mic: Say “Hello” or “Testing” softly.

Signal the sound team if there's an issue.

Remember: A microphone is a tool to help you minister effectively, not a drum. Treat it with care and respect.
