BlackfaceNaija is trending for good reasons. He has been vindicated after his persistent fight for his inalienable right. Yesterday he had a show in the prestigious Eko Hotels and he is fastly becoming the most loved artist. After KK Ogungbe granted an interview with Nedu's Honest Podcast, everything has come out in the light, for darkness is but temporal.
I have been consistent about BlackfaceNaija because his situation represents what I have been writing on Facebook since 2008. As an activist with a conscience, I know BlackfaceNaija was suppressed by the mighty in the industry in conjunction with the Press to cover an evil. We see the same suppression in workplaces where Ogars eat the money of junior workers, where teenage maids are made to sleep for just 3hrs a day and work for their Madam for 21hrs, we see where students suffer unnecessary intimidation from lecturers, we see fellow citizens living as IDPs as a result of sponsored killers, we see how politicians steal the people's money and leave them in abject poverty, and so on. We see these evil and because the victims don't have a voice, we either ignore them or mock them.
The battery bar of our moral conscience is closed to zero. What used be abnormal and immoral is now the new normal and the rich and influential determine what is good or bad. At least for Blackface, the dark days of "go sing another song", "hater", "where did you keep your song before it was stolen", "jealous soul" is gone. This is a victory for the suppressed and a call for a rethink of our moral code. The lesson here is that you should always fight for your rights even if the whole world is against you. This can be your New Year's resolution.
