You know, sometimes in life, you meet people who are doing everything right, yet everything keeps going wrong.
Have you ever seen someone like that?
That was my friend, Tunde.
Let me tell you about him.
Tunde was brilliant. Top of his class, sharp mind, great character. If you met him, you’d swear he’d be a millionaire by 25. But for five painful years after university, Tunde was trapped in a nightmare.
Every time he went for a job interview, they’d tell him, "We'll get back to you." And if he finally got close to a breakthrough, something bizarre would destroy it.
One day, he was on his way to a final job interview, and the bus randomly broke down in the middle of nowhere. Another time, a company actually gave him an offer letter—only to freeze recruitment the very next morning! He even saved up to start a small business, and just two weeks after opening, thieves wiped out the entire shop.
While other folks were moving on with life, Tunde was struggling to buy his next meal. He prayed until his knees hurt. He learned new skills. He tried everything. But the heartbreak just kept repeating itself.
One afternoon, Tunde came to sit with me. I looked into his eyes, and all I could see was deep exhaustion and quiet despair.
As we were sitting there, something heavy rested on my spirit. Now, I’m not someone who just says things for the sake of it, but deep inside me, the spiritual root of his problem was made clear to me.
I looked at him and said, "Tunde, your problem isn't your resume. It isn't your intelligence. There is a pattern repeating in your life, and spiritual patterns don't break until the root is addressed."
He looked at me, completely silent.
So I told him what was revealed to me about his family's past……
"Years ago, before you were born, your late father was a poor boy. There was an uncle in the village who sacrificed his own food, his own comfort, and everything he had to send your father to school. But when your father succeeded, he walked away. He forgot the man who saved him. That uncle died in deep hardship and tears, feeling abandoned."
I laid my hand on his shoulder and said,
"Gratitude is a spiritual bridge, Tunde.
When your family turned their back on the person who built them up, that bridge collapsed. The heavy cloud over your life isn't a lack of effort—it's an unpaid debt of gratitude. Go back to your father's village. Find that man’s family, and heal what was broken."
Tunde didn't argue. He didn't make excuses.
He gathered the tiny bit of money he had left and traveled straight to his father's village. When he got there, he found the late uncle's widow living in a broken-down house, struggling to feed her grandchildren.
Tunde humbly hired workers to repair their leaking roof, paid the children's school fees for the year, and blessed the family quietly before slipping away.
That night, Tunde had a dream.
He saw an old man sitting under a massive green tree. The man looked at him with warm eyes, smiled, touched his shoulder, and said….
"Thank you for remembering what others forgot. Go in peace."
When Tunde woke up the next morning, he told me he felt a weight lift off his chest that he didn't even know he was carrying.
Guess what?
Within a single month, a company that had rejected him years ago randomly called his phone. A new manager had stumbled across his old application and brought him in. He got the job on the spot!
Everything he touched finally began to work.
Months later, Tunde came back to thank me. He asked what gift he could give Victor Firdance for showing him the way. I just smiled and told him to find a struggling person every single year and help them because the greatest way to honor a blessing... is to become one.
What repeated patterns are currently holding you back in life?
