🎙️ ITAN ILU MI with Radio Host Tommyrex
📍 Episode Title: Adigbe – The Hidden Legacy in the Heart of Abeokuta

Adigbe a name that echoes through the streets of Abeokuta with quiet pride is more than just a location. It is a community deeply woven into the historical and cultural fabric of Ogun State. But what does "Adigbe" really mean?

🔍 Meaning of Adigbe

The name "Adigbe" is said to originate from the Yoruba phrase "A di gbe", which loosely translates to "we have carried" or "it has been lifted." Over time, oral tradition holds that the name reflects a legacy of migration, settlement, and unity among early dwellers who carried their burdens (physical and spiritual) to find peace in this land.

📜 Brief History of Adigbe

Adigbe sits comfortably in the Obafemi Owode Local Government Area, but culturally and economically, it is very much a part of Abeokuta’s pulse. Initially a rural-agrarian zone, Adigbe grew as settlers from other parts of Ogun and neighboring states moved in. It became a popular location because of its:

Proximity to the city center (Ake, Oke-Ilewo, Panseke)

Access to farmland and water bodies

Hospitality and unity of the Egba people

As urbanization swept through Abeokuta, Adigbe transformed into a semi-urban area filled with real estate developments, schools, churches, and small businesses. It is now home to both indigenes and newcomers, forming a peaceful blend of tradition and modern lifestyle.

🌆 Modern Day Adigbe

Today, Adigbe is known for:

The popular Adigbe-Opako road that links many parts of the city

Its real estate boom, attracting developers and investors

A fast-growing student and youth population due to its closeness to institutions like MAPOLY

A community market, churches, mosques, schools, and entertainment hubs that reflect modern Abeokuta life

Despite modernization, the people of Adigbe still hold tightly to their roots — celebrating traditional festivals, respecting elders, and honoring the legacy of their ancestors.

🔚 Closing Note by Tommyrex:
"Adigbe isn’t just a place on the map — it’s a living story, a chapter in the book of Abeokuta’s greatness. ITAN ILU MI continues next week as we journey into more corners of our heritage. Stay tuned… ilu yi, a le fi sile oo."

South African Influencer Reveals Her Nigerian Husband Tattooed Her Name After Just 2 Days of Dating as They Celebrate First Anniversary

📣🔥 ᴴᴱᴸᴸᴼ ᴹᴬᴾᴼᴸʸ! 🔥📣

Talk about "love at first ink!" A South African influencer has got the internet buzzing after she shared a shocking but sweet detail about her relationship with her Nigerian husband — and it's giving rom-com energy!

In a viral anniversary post, the influencer revealed that her husband tattooed her name on his hand just two days after they started dating! Yes, TWO DAYS! The lovebirds are now celebrating their first anniversary, and social media is both stunned and swooning.

She wrote:

> “A year ago, you tattooed my name just 48 hours after we met. I thought you were crazy. But today, I call it destiny. Happy anniversary, my love.”

The post was accompanied by a photo of the tattoo — boldly inked on his hand — and several romantic pictures from their journey together.

The story has sparked mixed reactions:

> “That’s the kind of love I want — wild and intentional!”
“Na two days? Bros no even think am twice. That’s real or reckless!”
“Hope say she no break his heart o. Tattoo no dey come off easy.”

While some praised the gesture as romantic and fearless, others called it impulsive and warned against making such permanent decisions too early in a relationship.

Still, the couple seems to be thriving, proving that sometimes, when you know, you just know.

"Cut Your Beards" – Daddy Showkey Fires Back at Niger Governor Over Dreadlock Arrest Directive

📣🔥 ᴴᴱᴸᴸᴼ ᴹᴬᴾᴼᴸʸ! 🔥📣

Veteran Nigerian singer and ghetto icon, Daddy Showkey, has come out swinging against the Governor of Niger State after the state reportedly ordered the arrest and forced shaving of men with dreadlocks, labeling them as societal “nuisances.”

In a bold clapback that’s gone viral, Daddy Showkey — known for his signature dreadlocks and powerful voice for the streets — took to Instagram with a fiery response:

> “Cut your beards first before you tell anybody to cut their hair!”

The legendary singer didn't mince words as he called out what he described as a "shallow and discriminatory policy", urging Nigerian leaders to stop profiling youths based on appearance and instead focus on real governance.

His response comes after reports surfaced that authorities in Niger State began targeting young men with dreads, tattoos, and piercings — accusing them of promoting social disorder and criminal behavior.

Social media immediately lit up with reactions:

> “So, dreadlocks now equals crime? Make it make sense.”
“Daddy Showkey always for the people! Respect the OG!”
“Is this governance or just another episode of stereotype gone wild?”

Many Nigerians, especially young people, have described the policy as oppressive, tone-deaf, and outdated, with calls for the governor to focus on insecurity, unemployment, and education instead of hairstyles.

Mapoly fam, we want to hear from you!
Is this just a case of misplaced priorities, or should there be a standard for appearance in public spaces? Drop your hot takes in the comments!
