David Mark slams APC over abrupt economic policies The National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Senator David Mark, has attributed the failed economic policies to persistent abrupt rollouts without sufficient sequencing and adequate protection for the most vulnerable citizens.

The former President of the Nigerian Senate, who accused the ruling government of prioritising the suppression of opposition parties over addressing issues that matter to Nigerians, assured, however, that the ADC seeks to address these weaknesses through its Policy and Manifesto Committee, which has proposed the Principle of Gradual and Sequenced Reform with Social Cushioning.

Speaking in Abuja on Tuesday, when the Policy and Manifesto Committee of the ADC, chaired by former Edo State Governor John Odigie-Oyegun, presented its report to the National Working Committee (NWC) of the ADC, Senator Mark pointed out that one principle that stands out for him is that survival income must not be taxed.

ICPC seeks court order to extend el-Rufai’s detention An Abuja Magistrate’s Court is to rule today on an application by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), seeking an additional 14 days to keep former Kaduna State governor, Nasir el Rufai, in custody.

The presiding magistrate, Okechukwu Akweke, had last week adjourned proceedings to allow the court to consider the anti-graft agency’s request for an extension of the remand order.

el-Rufai has been in custody since February 18, 2026, over allegations bordering on money laundering and unlawful interception of communications belonging to the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu.

The commission had earlier secured a 14-day remand order from a Magistrate Court in Bwari, Abuja, on February 19, 2026, to detain the former governor while investigations continued. The order reportedly expired on March 5.

Tinubu orders security chiefs to Maiduguri after terror attacks President Bola Tinubu has directed Nigeria’s security chiefs to immediately relocate to Maiduguri, Borno State, to coordinate operations and restore stability following the recent terrorist attacks in the state capital.

The directive forms part of the Federal Government’s immediate response to the coordinated assaults on military formations and communities in the area.

The President gave the order while expressing deep sympathy to families of those who lost their lives and to residents affected by the violence.

“The recent news from Maiduguri, Borno State, is profoundly upsetting. I mourn those who lost their lives, sympathise with the injured, and stand in solidarity with the people of Borno during this challenging time,” Tinubu said.

According to the President, the deployment of the country’s top security leadership to the state is aimed at strengthening operational coordination among security agencies and ensuring swift containment of the threat posed by the insurgents.

‘ I am not a single mum’ — Annie Idibia Actress Annie Idibia has declared that she is “not a single mum” but “a single woman raising two kids.”

“I’M NOT A SINGLE MOM. I’M A SINGLE WOMAN RAISING TWO KIDS,” she wrote.

Although Annie did not provide additional context, her statement comes more than a year after her separation from music star 2baba with whom she shares two daughters. The couple officially ended their marriage in 2024 after over a decade together.

Their relationship had long been in the public eye. Over the years, both faced intense scrutiny, with social media amplifying private disagreements and personal struggles. The marriage was in the public eyes not only because of their celebrity status but also because of past controversies surrounding 2Baba’s relationships.

Before their separation, Annie and 2Baba appeared on the Netflix reality series Young, Famous & African. On the show, Annie spoke candidly about the pressures within their 12-year marriage. She addressed issues of infidelity and the emotional strain she experienced over the years.

Stakeholders seek speedy passage of Research Innovation Fund Bill Stakeholders in the technology space have called for speedy passage of the National Research and Innovation Fund (NRIF) Bill to provide sustainable financing for science and technology in the country.

The NRIC bill aims to establish a dedicated fund to boost scientific research, innovation, and investment in Nigeria, create a knowledge-based economy, and diversify funding away from reliance on annual budgetary appropriations.

The fund is to be implemented under the project titled “Strengthening UK–West Africa Science, Technology and Innovation Partnerships for Sustainable Development,” also known as the Sankore.

At the Stakeholders Consultation Workshop on Operationalization of Nigeria’s National Research and Innovation Fund (NRIF) organised by the Federal Ministry of Innovation, Science and Technology, Sheda Science and Technology Complex, SHESTCO, and UNESCO under the UK–West Africa Science, Technology and Innovation Partnerships for Sustainable Development (SANKORE Project) in Abuja, experts noted that the Bill, when passed into law, will advance Science, Technology, and Innovation in the country and called for effective establishment of institutional structures, and the implementation of the Five-Year Strategic Roadmap to position the NRIF as a transformative vehicle for economic diversification, inclusive growth, and national development.

Speaking at the event, the Director General , SHESTCO, Hon. Magaji Aliyu said that no nation develops without innovation, science and technology.

Again, arraignment stalls as DPP seeks case review in N300M property damage suit The scheduled arraignment of property developer Cecil Osakwe and lawyer Victor Giwa was on Tuesday stalled once again as the prosecution sought a short adjournment to enable a further review of the case on the instruction of the Director of Public Prosecutions of the Federation (DPPF).

At the resumed sitting on tuesday the prosecuting counsel, Aderonke Imanah, informed the court that the matter, slated for arraignment, could not proceed because the third defendant was absent and the DPPF had directed a fresh review.

She consequently asked the court for a new date.

The court noted that counsel to the third defendant, Chidiebere Onyekwere, had written a letter explaining her client’s absence, adding that the defendant had been consistently absent from proceedings.

Also responding, Victor Giwa, who appeared for himself, thanked the DPP for commencing the review of the case.

Heavyweights boycott Delta State APC congress The All Progressives Congress (APC) State Congress in Delta State, held Tuesday at the Cenotaph in Asaba, was billed as a show of unity ahead of the 2027 elections. Instead, it exposed deep cracks within the party, as several influential figures conspicuously stayed away from the exercise.

Among those who shunned the congress were former Deputy Senate President Ovie Omo-Agege, Senator Ned Nwoko, and House of Representatives member Eritake Ibori-Suenu, alongside other key stakeholders.

Their absence cast a long shadow over proceedings and fueled speculation of widening divisions within the state chapter of the ruling party.

While no official reason was given for the boycott, party sources told The Guardian that the aggrieved leaders felt sidelined in the planning and ex*****on of the congress, prompting them to distance themselves from the process along with their loyalists.

The development has intensified concerns that the Delta APC may be headed for a major internal power struggle.
