A pleasant day to all distinguished guests and dignitaries, His Excellency Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu , and all the awardees of The Duke of Edinburgh's International Award . I am Olanrewaju Opeyemi Matthew from State Senior High School, Alimosho.
My affiliation with The International Award for Young People Nigeria has greatly contributed to the development of my skills, particularly in cinematography. Through the award program, I learned how to shoot live content and edit it effectively. My physical strength has also improved through jogging as part of my recreational activities. Additionally, I have served my community by organizing a street cleanup exercise and volunteering with the award to assist participants in achieving their goals across the six educational districts in Lagos State. Moreover, the adventurous journey component gave me the opportunity to explore amazing places I had never visited before.
The award has impacted me in numerous ways, but to mention just a few: it has shaped my ability to work in a team, helped me overcome fears, built my resilience, and taught me that whatever journey I begin, I must finish it with determination, refusing to be distracted by challenges along the way.
I strongly believe that in the near future, through the skills and experiences gained from this award, I will complete the process of establishing my charity foundation, which will focus on the health sector, a key area in the The Lagos State Government THEMES agenda.
Finally, I would like to use this opportunity to express my gratitude to the National Director, Mr. Oshoke Jobrai Bello , my Award Leader, Mrs. Abiola Rabiu Adeagbo , the entire staff of The International Award for Young People Nigeria, The Honourable Commisioner for Education Hon Folasade Adefisayo, and Lagos State Ministry of Education for this great opportunity.
God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria, God bless Lagos State, God bless me, and God bless you all.

Last Saturday, on December 2nd, 2023, I had the privilege of joining an incredible initiative organized by The International Award for Young People Nigeria, with invaluable support from the African Cleanup Initiative. Our mission? To revitalize the stunning Alpha Beach and contribute to its conservation.
The day was nothing short of amazing as I connected with fellow volunteers hailing from the vibrant coastal city of Lagos. Together, we dedicated ourselves to restoring the beach, combating pollution, and preserving the beauty of our coastline.
What truly stood out was the power of teamwork. With collective effort, we tackled the task at hand swiftly, making significant strides in clearing the debris that had marred the beach. It was inspiring to witness everyone's commitment to ensuring that every piece of waste found its rightful place, meticulously sorting plastic, nylon, and other materials for proper recycling.
The impact of our actions extends beyond just a cleaner beach. By segregating and recycling the waste, we're contributing to a more sustainable environment, paving the way for a greener future.
I'm filled with gratitude for being part of this meaningful endeavor and witnessing firsthand the spirit of unity and dedication among the volunteers. Our collective efforts serve as a testament to what can be achieved when we come together for a common cause.
Let's continue to spread awareness, advocate for responsible waste management, and take actions that positively impact our environment. Together, we can make a lasting difference!

I thought to share this growth process of mine with you.

I have been a Bronze Award recipient and a current Silver participant looking forward to my Gold Award in The International Award for Young People Nigeria

This framework has been instrumental in shaping me and countless young individuals across our nation, helping us become better versions of ourselves.

The International Award for Young People Nigeria is a catalyst for personal growth and development.

It encompasses various aspects of a young person's life, such as skills, physical recreation, and voluntary service.

I started volunteering for the Award right from my Bronze Award level, and through this volunteering, I've learned that challenges are growth opportunities.

These experiences have not only shaped my character but have also equipped me with crucial life skills.

They've taught me the art of diplomacy, the importance of adaptability, and the power of teamwork in tackling societal issues.

And today, I am a testament of the transformative power of voluntary service.

I have come to realize that volunteerism is an avenue for young people to gain experience, an area in which our education system is lacking today.

I am using this opportunity to urge you, reading this right now to consider volunteering in order to help shape our communities as well as ensure that the next generation is equipped with the tools needed for a brighter tomorrow.
