Warri South Constituency 2 Belongs to Urhobo Says Okumagba

A vibrant community leader in Okere Urhobo Warri, Mr. Igho Egheba Okumagba has said that Warri South Constituency 2 created by INEC which comprises of Okere Urhobo Kingdom and Agbarha Warri Kingdom in Warri South Local Government Area of Delta State belongs to the Urhobos of Warri.
Okumagba who spoke to newsmen in Warri said it become very important for an indigene of the constituency to contest for the Delta State House of Assembly seat and not indigene of a neighbouring tribe, stressing that the current Chairman of Warri South Local Government Area, Dr. Michael Tidi declaring his interest to contest election under Constituency 2 for the 2023 Delta State House of Assembly (DTHA) remains unacceptable to the indigenous Urhobos of Warri.
He noted that Tidi’s declaring to contest for DTHA under Constituency 2 is a call for anarchy and crisis in Warri and environs.
According to him “Tidi’s declaration to contest under Constituency 2 remains condemnable and unacceptable to the people of Okere Urhobo Kingdom and Agbarha Warri Kingdom. It should be made clear to the general public that Urhobos of Warri was at loggerhead with the Itsekiris over the ownership of Warri metropolis until the Supreme Court judgment that put an end to the controversy in favour of the Urhobos”.
Okumagba who is also one of the leaders of South -South Zone said that the action of Dr. Michael Tidi is capable of igniting crisis in Warri metropolis as such the Itsekiri nation should call their son to order, urging them to stop him from nurturing the ambition to contest in Urhobo territory now and in future.
He also called on the Delta State Governor, Senator Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, the Delta State Commissioner of Police and other security agencies to call Dr. Tidi to order to avoid imminent crisis that may erupt from his ambition to contest under Warri Constituency 2 of DTH

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Youth Task Force on COVID-19 has again advised President Muhammadu Buhari to lockdown Nigeria due to rising cases on coronavirus.

Itsey Sagay, Chairman of the Presidential Advisory Committee Against Corruption (PACAC), in his suggestion, said Nigeria should be locked for two months.

Officials of the Buhari administration have also decried the level of compliance by citizens since the lockdown ease.

On Thursday, the Progressive Students Movement (PSM) joined calls to the federal government to impose a fresh ‘stay at home’ order.

PSM President, Bestman Okereafor, spoke in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

Okereafor expressed concern about facilities, equipment and health workers preparedness in states.

“The Federal Government, as a matter of urgency, should declare a state of emergency in states with high level of confirmed COVID-19 cases basically to reduce the spread of the pandemic.

“The state of emergency should come on these states through strict enforcement of lockdown for at least two weeks.

“This move had become imperative following the increase in inter-state movement especially at night hours notwithstanding the present night curfew imposed by the Federal Government meant to ensure containment of the pandemic,’’ he said.

Buhari To End Lagos, Abuja Lockdown As Requested By Governors

The inter-state lockdown decision taken by the Nigeria Governors Forum (NGF) is a “done deal”. A Chief Press Secretary to a state governor confirmed this to Daily Post on Sunday.

He explained that the chief executives made their position known to enable the federal government to put in place necessary arrangements for compliance.

“The governors’ resolution is to curtail the spread of Coronavirus. The federal government has the power to shut inter-state borders, hence the request to Mr. President,” he said.

“The two weeks’ lockdown will be announced by Mr. President. It’s a done deal. However, he will list exemptions and give Nigerians other important information.” The NGF had asked President Muhammadu Buhari, to stop inter-state movements but end the lockdown in Lagos, Ogun and Abuja, while converting same to curfew.

Their position was contained in a letter addressed to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation/Chairman, Presidential Task Force on COVID-19, Boss Mustapha.

Signed by the NGF chairman and Ekiti State Governor, Kayode Fayemi, the forum wants free but restricted movement within states.

They requested inter-state lockdown, free movement of essential supplies such as food, beverages, medical and pharmaceutical, petroleum supplies and agricultural products.

Others are internal free movement but restrictions on large gatherings and assemblies, overnight curfews, flights ban and compulsory use of face masks/coverings in public.

The Federal Executive Council (FEC) has approved the reimbursement of funds expended on federal roads by some state governments.

The total sum to be reimbursed to five states is N148,141,987,161.25.

The beneficiary states are :
1. Cross River N18,394,737,608.85.
2. Ondo N7,822,147,577.08.
3. Osun N2,468,938,876.78.
4. Bayelsa N38,040,564,783.40.
5. Rivers N78,953,067,518.29.

The memo was presented by the Minister of Works and Housing Babatunde Fashola at the third virtual council meeting, presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari inside the Council Chambers of the State House.

Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, who briefed State House Correspondents on behalf of Fashola, said council has also warned there will be no reimbursement in future, should any state government venture into such projects without the nod of the government at the center.
