Today, we proudly celebrate and eulogize a shining star, a trailblazer, and a proud daughter of the Yoruba people, Professor Deborah Enilo Ajakaiye.
Born in 1940 in Jos but rooted in the rich heritage of Yoruba excellence, Professor Ajakaiye defied societal limitations and etched her name in history. In 1980, she became the first female professor of physics in all of Africa,an achievement that speaks volumes of her brilliance, courage, and the indomitable “can-do” spirit of the Yoruba people and Nigerians at large.
She not only broke glass ceilings, she built ladders for generations after her. Her legacy is a testament to what is possible when intellect meets resilience.
We honor her today,a daughter of distinction, a woman of science, and a true icon of African excellence.
May her legacy continue to inspire.
