DISSOLUTION OF THE CARETAKER COMMITTEE OF NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF OBOT AKARA STUDENTS (NAOAS) WORLDWIDE AND THE CONSTITUTION OF AN ELECTORAL BOARD COMMITTEE

The Executive Chairman of Obot Akara Local Government Area has officially dissolved the Caretaker Committee of the National Association of Obot Akara Students (NAOAS) Worldwide, effective 15 October 2025. This follows the successful completion of the committee’s transitional duties and aims to uphold democratic principles through credible elections.

A new Electoral Board Committee has been constituted to oversee the upcoming NAOAS elections. Their responsibilities include organizing the election, setting guidelines, ensuring transparency and inclusivity, and engaging with stakeholders.

Members of the Electoral Board Committee:
1. Nkereuwem Udom – Chairman
2. Ukeme Denis Umoh – Secretary
3. Camillus Patrick Ekanem – Member
4. Ekene Kingsley Paul – Member
5. Jumbo Ime Joseph – Member
6. Gospel Peter Titus – Member
7. Bassey Winner Zion – Member

The Chairman called for full cooperation from all stakeholders to ensure a smooth and democratic transition for NAOAS.

COLLEGE OF EDUCATION AFAHA NSIT UPGRADED TO UNIVERSITY OF EDUCATION

Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has approved the upgrading of the State College of Education Afaha Nsit to a University of Education.

This was part of the resolutions of the State Executive Council held today at the EXCO Chambers, Government House, Uyo.

EXCERPTS FROM THE AKWA IBOM STATE EXECUTIVE COUNCIL MEETING HELD ON MONDAY , OCTOBER 13, 2025

The Akwa Ibom State Executive Council held its regular meeting on Monday, October, 13,2025 at the Executive Council Chamber, Governors Office, Uyo. The meeting was presided over by the Governor and Chairman in Council, His Excellency, Pastor Umo Eno, PhD. In attendance were the Deputy Governor, Senator Akon Eyakenyi; Secretary to the State Government; Head of the Civil Service; Executive Assistant and Chief Delivery Advisor; Honourable Commissioners and Special Advisers.

In his opening remarks, His Excellency the Governor in Council, Pastor Umo Eno welcomed members and charged all to remain steadfast and loyal to the ideals of the administration. The Governor urged members to remain commitment to service delivery and collaboration for the full realization of the ARISE Agenda for the overall development of the State, within set timelines.

RESOLUTIONS
1. In a bid to to realign and update ministerial responsibilities as well as resolve areas of overlap, the Governor-in-Council approved the composition of a special committee to implement the exercise. The committee has the Secretary to the State Government as Chairman with the Head of the Civil Service, Executive Assistant, Attorney General, Solicitor-General and Managing Director of. The Committee has six weeks to submit its report.

2. In giving effect to the promotion of justice, social welfare, safety and security management components of the ARISE Agenda, the Executive Council considered and approved a Memo for the Establishment of the Office of the Public Defender under the Ministry of Justice; to provide free legal representation to indigent residents and ensure they receive fair treatment under the law, reduce number of suspects detained without trial, protect rights of the vulnerable, educate citizens on their rights and obligations to promote justice sector reforms.

3. Following the review of the report of the inter-ministerial committee on the implementation of the State of Emergency in the Health sector, Council considered and approved Projects and programmes timelines especially the recruitment of doctors and medical professionals, increase in special peculiar allowances for medical personnel, Skipping policy for the health sector, evaluation and completion of BOQs for phase 1 of the rehabilitation of selected hospitals and primary healthcare facilities within two weeks to enable health infrastructure interventions to commence by November 1, health sector stakeholders Dialogue scheduled for the 8 & 9th of November, 2025 medical residency training fund subject to the requisite agreements and the commissioning of General Hospital, Ukanafun on the 10th of November, 2025.

4. In its drive to improve the standard and quality of teachers education in line with the Human Capital Development of the ARiSE Agenda, Council received and adopted the memo for the Upgrading of the College of Education, Afaha Nsit to Akwa Ibom State University of Education and approved same for regularization.

5. Council also considered several reports and memos; ratified FGPC memos on various ongoing projects in the State

6. The Governor had earlier in the day received in courtesy the AIG in-charge of Zone 6, Auwal Mohammed Musa, who commended his partnership for the enhancement of policing duties in the state through various logistical and welfare support to the Police and security agencies.

The EXCO rose at 7.30 pm for a condolence visit to the family of the revered God’s General, Rev. Dr. Uma Ukpai, who recently passed on to eternal glory.

HON. DR. PATRICK UMOH KSJI REPRESENTS SENATE PRESIDENT AT GLOBAL ICON FOUNDATION SCHOOLS’ MAIDEN GRADUATION CEREMONY

Earlier today, Hon. Dr. Patrick Umoh KSJI, Member representing Ikot Ekpene/Essien Udim/Obot Akara Federal Constituency, represented the President of the 10th Senate, His Excellency Sen. (Dr.) Godswill Obot Akpabio, GCON, in the maiden graduation ceremony of Global Icon Foundation Schools.The event, held at the school’s campus in Ifuho, Ikot Ekpene Local Government Area, marked the institution’s first graduation since its establishment. It drew a distinguished gathering of educators, parents, community leaders, and government officials, all united in celebrating the academic achievements of the graduating class.

Delivering the Senate President’s goodwill message, Dr. Patrick Umoh emphasized the central role of education in shaping Nigeria’s future. “Education is the most powerful tool for national development,” he declared. “It is our collective responsibility to nurture it, invest in it, and ensure it remains accessible and impactful.”

He encouraged the graduands to remain focused, socially responsible, and committed to the advancement of the nation. “Let your ambitions be guided by service, innovation, and patriotism,” he said, echoing the Senate President’s vision for youth empowerment.

Earlier in the day, Dr. Patrick Umoh attended the funeral service of the late Mrs. Grace Bartholomew Umoh at Assumption Parish, Ike Annang, Essien Udim LGA. A devoted Catholic, she was honored in a solemn ceremony that reflected a life of faith, humility, and service. Dr. Umoh joined family members, friends, and other mourners in offering final prayers and tributes to a woman remembered for her grace and enduring impact.

Earlier today, The Executive Chairman of Obot Akara Local Government Area, Rt. Hon. Simon Dominic Akpan, embarked on a significant visit to project sites within the Local Government. The purpose of his visit was to evaluate the progress being made on ongoing projects. Upon his arrival, the Council boss was warmly welcomed by the contractors, engineers, and workers involved in the projects, who reaffirmed their dedication to completing the projects within the scheduled timeframe.

During his address, Chairman Simon Dominic Akpan emphasized his administration's commitment to delivering tangible and impactful projects that would benefit the people of the Local Government. He highlighted the importance of effective leadership in providing the community with essential infrastructure and facilities. Additionally, he lauded Governor Umo Eno and his Arise Agenda for initiating impactful projects across the state.
