All degree certificates from Cotonou University issued between 2017 and the present will be rendered invalid. Additionally, all personnel currently employed by the Federal Government are to be terminated immediately.

The federal government has authorized the termination of employees in both the public and private sectors who possess counterfeit degree certificates acquired from the Republics of Benin and Togo.

During a press conference held in Abuja on Friday to mark his first anniversary in office, Minister of Education Tahir Mamman revealed that these initiatives were sanctioned in a recent meeting of the federal executive council, which was presided over by President Bola Tinubu.

He said, “One of the things we did in the course of the year was — remember when information broke out about some of our students going to neighbouring countries —some not even going at all — to obtain certificates.

“The ministry set up a committee to look into that; the committee came up with a detailed review; that review was sent to the federal executive council about a month ago, which approved some of the recommendations from the ministry.

“Now the recommendations will be implemented along with other ministries and agencies affected, including NYSC, Immigration.

“Because we have to take some major decisions here, some staff who are affected faced disciplinary measures, and that the whole unit went through some kind of review.

“But by and large, we can’t have in our midst people who procure fake certificates and to compete with our students who graduated from our universities and polytechnics through their sweat, some spent four, five, six, or more years going out to compete with people who procure certificates right here without going anywhere, for a lot of them.

“So what the FEC now approves is that, through the data, that NYSC has, about 21,684 students that are parading fake certificates from Benin Republic, obtained between 2019 to 2023.

“Togo is about 1,105. How did that happen? They simply attend schools, which are not recognised in those countries.

“Remember, this point is extremely important. The non-recognition itself is in those countries. They are not institutions recognised to offer degree programs in those countries.

“Instead, some of our parents, take their wards to these institutions, and of course there is no way we would recognise qualifications which are not recognised in those countries.

“In the case of Togo, we have three universities that are officially approved and licensed to offer degrees, and in Benin, there are about five of them.

“So anyone who didn’t attend these universities is parading a fake certificate.

“And from 2017, anybody who attended a university solely run in English is wasting his time because it’s not an approved university. That is their policy.

“But a lot of our countrymen went there—some didn’t go anyway; remember, these numbers are just what we have, a lot of them didn’t even bother to go to NYSC.

“The number may be more…Some who attempted to but couldn’t succeed in the screening process disappeared into thin air.

“So in the final analysis, what the federal government approved is that the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF, will issue a circular to all employers, whether public or private, to fish out anybody with a certificate from these institutions—that circular probably would have been out by now.

“And the Head of Service, has also been mandated to fish out from the public service anybody who is parading certificate from these institutions.

“So this is the decision of the federal government on this matter”.

BREAKING!!! Again, Chinese Company Takes Over Nigeria’s $57 Million Jet In Canada

A Chinese firm, Zhongshang Fucheng Industrial Investment Ltd, has seized a luxury jet owned by the Nigerian government in Canada.

The Bombardier 6000 type BD-700-1A10 aircraft, valued at $57 million, was repossessed by Canadian authorities in Montreal, following a court judgment in favour of Zhongshang.

According to sources, the change of custodian paperwork was finalized recently, months after a Canadian court granted orders for Zhongshang to seize the jet.

“The court granted orders for Zhongshang to seize the plane earlier this year, but the change of custody from Nigeria to Zhongshang was only recently concluded,” a source familiar with the matter said.

The company has vowed to continue seizing Nigeria’s assets worldwide until the last cent of the arbitration awards has been paid.

“Zhongshang will not stop seizing Nigeria’s assets worldwide until the last cent of the arbitration awards has been paid,” the source added.

The luxury jet was originally purchased by fugitive Dan Etete, who netted over $350 million from the corrupt sale of OPL 245 oil field in 2010. Nigeria seized the aircraft from Etete in 2016 and held it in Dubai before it was flown to Canada in 2020, where Nigeria quickly obtained a court order for seizure and held it at the main airport in Montreal.

Zhongshang moved to seize the jet in 2023, as part of its efforts to enforce arbitration awards of over $70 million against Nigeria. Judge David Collier of the Superior Court of Quebec ruled in favour of Zhongshang, rejecting Nigeria’s arguments and sovereign immunity claim as the recent arbitration in the UK has held.

Court of Appeal Orders Yahaya Bello to Show up for Arraignment.

The Court of Appeal, sitting in Abuja on Tuesday, August 20, 2024 ordered a former Kogi State governor, Yahaya Adoza Bello to present himself before Justice Emeka Nwite of the Federal High Court, Maitama, Abuja, for arraignment before any further action could be undertaken in his case.

The ruling was part of a unanimous judgment of the Appeal Court Justices, delivered by Hon Justice I.K. Amadi in the appeal filed by J.S.Okutepa, SAN on behalf of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, against the judgment of Justice Isah Abdullahi Jamil of the Kogi State High Court in the fundamental right case filed by Bello in February 2024 in relation to his prosecution by the Commission.

The Appeal Court Justices further held that the freeing of Yahaya Bello from EFCC’s prosecution by Justice Jamil of the Kogi State High Court “under the guise of enforcing his fundamental rights was “scandalous,” noting that “It is very clear that the purpose of the case instituted at the trial court was to shield the respondent Yahaya Bello from his criminal trial.”

Relying on the earlier ruling of the Appeal Court by Justice Oyewole in EFCC vs Yahaya Bello, CA/ABJ/CV/413/2024, the Justices reiterated that "no Court has the power to preclude a law enforcement agent from performing its statutory functions.”

In upholding EFCC’s application for the quashing of Justice Jamil’s fundamental rights shield on Yahaya Bello, the Justices agreed with the appeal of the Commission, stating that it is “meritorious and is therefore allowed.”
More importantly, the Justices drew authority from the provision of Section 396(2) of ACJA, and ordered Yahaya Bello to show up in court for his arraignment before any further action can be taken regarding his trial.

"In view of the provision of Section 396(2) of ACJA, the Respondent in this appeal; ALH. YAHAYA ADOZA BELLO is hereby ordered to appear for his arraignment in Charge No.: FHC/ABJ/CR/550/2022, FRN VS ALI BELLO & ANOR, before taking any other step in this matter,” the court ruled.

Yahaya Bello is facing prosecution by the EFCC alongside his nephew, Ali Bello, Dauda Suleiman and Abdulsalam Hudu on 19-count charges bordering on money laundering to the tune of N80,246,470,089.88k ( Eighty Billion, Two Hundred and Forty-six Million, Four Hundred and Seventy Thousand, Eighty-nine Naira and Eighty- eight kobo). He has consistently refused to take a plea before the court in spite of several attempts made by the EFCC to this effect.

ONDO Govt Targets 500,000 Homes For Portable Water Supply

Ondo State Governor, Hon. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, has called for the support and cooperation of residents, security agencies, and other stakeholders as the construction and channelization of water supply projects begin across the State. The Governor made this appeal during a stakeholders meeting in Akure, where he addressed the urban water reform and Akure water supply and sanitation project.

Governor Aiyedatiwa emphasized that in addition to providing clean water, the project aims to create job opportunities for skilled workers and enhance sanitation. Earlier in his welcome, Mr. Sunday Akinwalire, Commissioner for Water Resources, Public Sanitation, and Hygiene, commended the Governor's commitment towards the provision of potable water to the people of the State.

He said: “For over 30 years, the issue of inadequate potable water supply has plagued 8our communities. Today, with the governor’s approval, we are finally addressing this problem head-on. This project will significantly improve the quality of life for our people. The Technical Consultant to the project, Mr. Kehinde Adebayo, outlined the project’s technical aspects: “We will be repairing and revitalizing all previously abandoned mechanical equipment, treatment plants, storage facilities, and pipelines. This comprehensive approach will ensure that we have a reliable and efficient water supply system.

FG begins naira crude sale to Dangote October 1

The Federal Government has announced that the sales of crude oil to Dangote Refinery and other local refineries will commence October 1, 2024.

The Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, made the announcement during a meeting with the Implementation Committee on Monday in Abuja.

According to a post on the official X (formerly Twitter) page of the finance ministry, the meeting was to review progress on key initiatives.

At the meeting, key roles were outlined for stakeholders, including the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority, Central Bank of Nigeria, Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission and the African Export-Import Bank to ensure smooth implementation.

According to the post post read, the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr. Wale Edun led the Implementation Committee meeting on the transition to crude oil sales in naira. It revealed that the meeting reviewed progress on key initiatives, including the upcoming commencement of naira payments for crude oil sales to the Dangote Refinery starting October 1, 2024.”

Also, the Executive Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service, Dr Zacch Adedeji, and the Chairman of the Technical Sub-Committee reported that the first PMS delivery from Dangote is expected next month under existing agreements.
It also stated that updates were provided on the Port Harcourt and Dangote Refineries were also provided, with significant production increases expected from November 2024.

The minister emphasised the need for transparency and directed the Technical Sub-Committee to finalize details and prepare a report for the President, confirming that his directives are on track for implementation from September.

Recall that the Federal Executive Council had on July 29 okayed President Tinubu’s proposal for NNPC to halt the sale of crude oil to local refineries in foreign currency.

The Federal Executive Council approved that the 450,000 barrels meant for domestic consumption be offered in Naira to Nigerian refineries, using the Dangote refinery as a pilot. The move is to ensure the stability of the pump price of refined fuel and the dollar-naira exchange rate.
Findings show that Dangote Refinery, at the moment, requires 15 cargoes of crude oil yearly.

In response, the finance minister inaugurated a technical sub-committee tasked with developing the framework for the sale of crude oil to local refineries in naira.

All Election Petitions Should End Before Swearing-In, Says Chidoka

The former minister argued that the review is necessary for Nigeria’s electoral process to be strengthened and improved.

The former minister argued that the review is necessary for Nigeria’s electoral process to be strengthened and improved.

A former Aviation Minister, Osita Chidoka, has recommended that for Nigeria’s electoral process to be strengthened and improved, all petitions arising from elections should be resolved before the swearing-in of elected officials.

He stated this on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics where the off-cycle governorship elections in Kogi, Imo and Bayelsa states were reviewed.

“All petitions must end before swearing in,” he said. “We must make sure that nobody takes advantage of the lacuna in the election. We should scan the results – all the paper ballots, they should appoint election auditors should scan the results.”

“INEC has the power to review results within seven days. I think that mechanism has not been used by INEC. They should be able to review what the BVAS has against what has been entered and make sure they cancel all the appropriate results that need to be cancelled.
“We should ensure that we go back to the Justice Uwais report and the Election Offences Tribunal should be set up.”

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) held off-cycle polls in Bayelsa, Imo, and Kogi States on November 11, 2023, where the outcomes were challenged in courts.
